I had taken a few shots of my dog. She is a dark red/brown and was on a white floor. The shots were coming out too dark, so I pushed the EC up to +3. That worked fine.

The next time I used that camera I was taking shots of leaves on my lawn and couldn't understand why only auto gave the right exposure, any other mode was horribly overexposed... UNTIL, finally, the epiphany! DUHH - I still had the +3 EC set!

Yep, been there done that. I always try to move settings back to a "middle road" before putting the camera back on the shelf.

Interesting note - my "good" camera is upstairs in my bag, and my SX50 sits on a tripod with a quick release plate downstairs. It is the one I seem to migrate to for taking quick snapshots. In this Covid era with me hibernating, it gets the most use.

Senior moments plague us all. Went out the other day without my SD card. Thanks to the duel card camera it wasn't the disaster it could have been.

Actually, I had to make tiny swords for the cards in one camera, they just couldn't get along.

I learned that lesson when I got home one day and a beautiful tom turkey was on my deck. The night before I was shooting moon shoots. By the time I figured it out to late. Lol. Ever since then back to middle ground settings before I shut off the camera. Its now part of my routine. Lol

And it shows up in the viewfinder. In my case I had used the camera the night before to long exposure of a bridge and went manual on the lens. If wasn't until I downloaded some photos into LR and they all looked just a bit blurry. Red face and threw away the pics. Haven't done it since. In fact I often check my settings before I leave the house to avoid my blunders. :)

If that is a "Senior Moment", then I have been a "senior", off-and-on, for 40 years.

It’s a shame you figgered it out without asking us first. We coulda run at least ten pages on that. Keep us in mind next time.

Been there done that. EC, ISO, and Shake Controls, all the time. It is annoying but not as annoying as messing up with film. I was younger and more careful and the cameras were far simpler. These days though I have gotten so used to shooting Digital I am like a novice with my film SLRs. Totally annoying. Hate to think of the errors I would make with my sheet film view cameras. Yikes, film reciprocity errors! You know a metered 4 second color film exposure is not 4 seconds? It is a problem with B&W film too. The last time I shot B&W sheet film I messed up recalculating the required exposure and ended with a 4 stop under exposed negative. It turned out to be usable but not the image I had imagined. I had forgotten bellows extension and film reciprocity for a metered 20 second exposure, should have been 50 to 100 seconds long!

So, yes today I try to set everything back to typical or null values before putting the camera away, but there are so many ways to mess up.

I have three DSLRs and have a tendency to forget to change back settings. I try to make a practice of checking all three at the same time when I get home just to make sure they are the same. Then I will not worry to remember also.

Your title reminded me: at 84, I've never had a Senior Moment-flat refuse to; however, hardly a day goes by without an "Intellectual Interlude" very similar to your action!
