I found the NIKON AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-80MM F/2.8-4E ED VR. Anybody have experience with this lens.

I have that lens and it is very, very good. I previously used the 18-105 mm lens which this replaces, and the newer lens is sharper, about the same weight and about the same size. The 16 mm gives the equivalent field of view of a 24 mm lens on a full-frame camera, and the 80 mm gives the field of view equivalent of 120 mm on full-frames. So I find this to be a great lens for general photography. See seven-oaks.net/dickspics for some examples of what I've done with this lens.

I started out with a Nikon D70s and its 18-70 kit lens; upgraded to a D80 and kept that kit lens. Along came the Nikon D300 and with it I got an 18-200 DX VR and still have it. Sold the D300 on Craigs List and got my first of two D7100s. My go to combo became a D7100 with Nikon 18-200 VR lens; that combo went to AZ twice and the Pac NW three times. Along the way I picked up a Tamron 18-270 lens; it was not as sharp as my Nikon 18-200; I put the Tamron on the D80 and gave it to my daughter; she could have had the D300 but turned it down. Jumped into the deep end of the pool when I upgraded to a D850 which required pro grade glass. Tried the 18-200 on the D850 with just OK results. At present I have a Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 non VR and Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 current iteration; along with a couple of older Nikkor manual focus primes, have used both FX lenses on both the D7100 and D850. This past week I was out for two days doing nothing but testing the 24-70 on the D7100. I have surveyed a lot of my pics from my trips to AZ and OR/WA; surveyed them to find out what focal lengths I used the most. To my surprise a lot of my shots are in the 28mm to 70mm range, so, in my opinion, my 24-70 on my D7100 was a "go" for me. However, I am considering going Nikon mirrorless and am considering selling off my 18-200 DX VR and my 24-70 f/2.8 FX non VR lenses. Will hold onto the D7100 body, possibly give it to my daughter or granddaughter or have it as a back up to my D850. I am not a wide angle lens shooter; if I want a wider perspective I will stitch a couple of shots together. I took a brand new Nikon 20mm f/1.8 to Seattle for New Years. Hiked the Hummock Trail in the vicinity of Mount St Helens before heading to Seattle for New Years; I returned the 20mm to B&H immediately after getting back from Seattle; I just did not care at all for that lens on my D850. Got better shots hiking with the 24-70 on my D7100. (Because of the environment at the trailhead, I did not want to risk swapping out lenses so kept the 24-70 on the D7100.) Don't know if you shoot any video with the D7200; I shoot video regularly with both my D7100 and D850 and like the 24-70 for video on both bodies. I wish my D7100 could shoot in camera time lapse video like my D850 can. I will be listing both my 18-200 DX VR and 24-70 f/2.8 FX non VR for sale soon.

I had the Nikon 16-80mm f/2.8-4 lens. I was disappointed with it. It's like a $500 to $600 lens that sells for over $1000. I already had the previous 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. They seem to have lowered the quality when they went to the 16-80mm. The build quality is not as good and it has a lower quality focusing motor. The focusing motor is noisy. I returned the 16-80mm and found a camera store that still had a new 16-85mm.

I have two friends that love that lens. They still have a new one at Roberts Camera. It's sharp with good contrast, clarity & color rendition.

That's an excellent lens for DX Nikons. I have two of them.
