First quote "And why in the hell would I ever need a file that large?"

Gee Wizz, why limit the file size to 1.4 GB? Why not go for broke? I've never subscribed to the bigger is better philosophy. But if you do, so be it.

You wouldn't have got my comments if you hadn't used the word "hell" in your first quote. That use implies a certain degree of criticism of previous repliers who were only giving their opinion of how much ram you should install. It has nothing to do with 'bigger is better'. It has nothing to do with limiting file size to 1.4GB or larger. It has nothing to do with 'going for broke'. It has EVERYTHING to do with using the right amount of memory for the job !
If you get by using 4GB (or 8GB or whatever it was) then you are obviously a relatively unsophisticated user. We have no idea why or why not YOU might ever need a file that large but others do use files that large and if you don't have sufficient memory then you are fighting an uphill battle.

I'm sorry that the word "hell" seems to set you off. I can list a bunch of other four-letter words that will send you through the roof. I guess that I am unsophisticated because I process images using the minimal number of layers thus keeping my files to a workable size. Perhaps you need 32 or even 64 GB to get yours off the ground. Fine, but don't impose your requirements on me. Perhaps, just perhaps, you are the unsophisticated one and just don't know what the hell you're doing.

It isn't the use of the word hell I objected to. It is the inference in the way you use the word that implies contempt to others.
I am not to sure where I tried to impose anything on you.
I don't need 32 or 64GB to get anything off the ground other than rude people like you.
There are sophisticated people who do need plenty of memory to do THEIR work. And there are people like you who can do their work with only 8GB. I suspect there is a whole lot of difference between the work they do and the work you do.

I am rude, aren't I? I've earned the privilege.

How have you earned the privilege ?
And I suspect (based on your answer which I suspect I know) so have I but I am not !
