Has anyone seen this new drama series on Netflix? It's about a female orphan who is a chess prodigy and works her way into the almost all male world of elite chess players. The writing and visuals are outstanding, and the lead actress is great. Netflix released all 7 episodes of Season 1 last month. I played a little chess many years ago, and I don't know much except the basic moves, but I've never seen the game of chess portrayed in such an exciting way. I binge watched all 7 episodes, and I highly recommend it. Here is the Rotten Tomatoes review:

My wife and I watched it last week. It is a very good series. I played chess a lot in my younger days too.
This series had some very good acting and directing. My wife enjoyed it, even though she knows next to nothing about chess.
Anya Taylor-Joy gave a very good performance, as well as the rest of the cast.
Since this series was so popular, there is talk about a second series happening.

Thanks for posting. I have wondered about that show but never saw it. I'll give it a try.
Everyone I know who has watched it has had positive things to say. No need to have chess knowledge.
I am not a series fan, I hate to get hooked... BUT... This is a limited series so not one of those 8 years of watching addiction things, usually potboilers.
This series is well crafted and the character development is excellent and believable. IMO, watch it. My friend, who suggested Queens Gambit to me, said she knew nothing [much] about Chess, but enjoyed the quiet technical drama, the quest to win for a woman in a man's world.
Just finished last night. Really enjoyed the show. I haven't played a game of Chess in years. This show made me appreciate again, the mental capacity it takes to play at this level.
We watched it last week - thoroughly enjoyable. I think the ending scene in the Moscow chess park was pure genius. When I was much younger (1950s), I played on the chess boards in Washington Square (NYC) and met some great characters. This was the time during which Bobby Fischer was an ascending star in the chess world.
We’re up to episode 4 and we love it
Binged it last week. Totally enjoyed it!!

Thanks for the recommendation. I just finished "House of Cards" last night and was looking for my next series. There have been several I have liked, especially "Turn", "Hell on Wheels", "Longmeyer", and "Pinky Blinders". . "House of Cards" was a bit disturbing in that I can't help but feel the story is a somewhat accurate representation of the corruption in Washington. Anyone willing to share other series they have enjoyed?
Thank you. I will definitely check this one out.
Great show.
I think it is the story of Bobby Fischer played by a beautiful young woman.
Same time period- cold war. Usa vs Russia the evil empire.
Young American prodigy takes on the world and wins.
I well remember the Fischer- Spassky battles in Iceland for the World Championships.
At that time chess was World Cup level competition. Front page of NYT for weeks.
The tension was incredible.
Do a google search for Fischer.
A remarkable character who faced a lot of personal crises as does the woman in the show.
