I'm pondering a purchase of an older full frame that would still be considered to produce excellent prints. For Budget reasons. I want to put money into glass. I was considering the Canon 5d Mark II. The Nikon D600, D700 etc. Looking for suggestions. Was looking to spend around $500ish give or take. Looking forward to hearing from you guys!
Spending $500 for 21MP of full-frame Canon EOS glory is a wonderful idea, a clear indication of the benefits of buying used high-end camera equipment. I'd look for new replacement batteries for any older camera. Depending on your source, they may not include the camera strap. Use ebay to find new replacements.

So you like the 5D Mark II?
The Nikon models at 12mp seem to be a lot cheaper? Thoughts?

Yes. The drawback is the AF system, where Canon differentiated the 5D line with the entry of the 6D line. The 5DII is closer to the later released 6D where the 5DIII is closer to the 1DXII, with the 5DIII using the same AF system as the 1DII, just without the second processor dedicated to AF as featured in the 1DXII/III models. So, your intended uses for the 5DII determines if that's the 'right' camera. The 5DIIIs are already in the $800 range. The low price doesn't indicate a lack of excellence, rather the glut of older cameras with replacements to the 5DIV and / or EOS mirrorless models. The change of the 5DIII was the addition of the 1DXII ish features as the sensor increased just to 22MP. Although not silent like modern mirrorless bodies, the 5DIII also has a quiet mode the 5DII doesn't have.
I'm basically a landscape, macro type of picture taker. I like printing my own images up to the largest I can get on my Canon Pro 9000 Mark II

I might avoid the D600 unless you know the known sensor oiling issue has been repaired by the factory. Another thing to consider: as Paul (CHgCanon) mentioned, the 5D MKIIIs have dropped in price substantially and are a great camera if you can swing the extra $. I sold mine (to buy the Mk IV) with 258,000 actuations, and it was still in perfect condition. Both the 5D2 and 5D3 are built like the proverbial tank. By the same token, in the same price range, the Nikon D750 was a great pro level camera like the 5D3 - I’ve seen them recently in the $750-800 range also. I think you’d be well pleased with the 5D2 or 3 or the D700 or 750.

I've been looking and I see what you mean! The III'S can be had for around $750ish.
What about the Nikon D700?
Are you letting a mirror hold you back from the photographer you were meant to be?

Not sure I know what you mean? Are asking why I'm not looking into Mirrorless?

Yep, and it is GREAT camera, I only sold mine because I came across a fantastic deal on a 5D4, but I could have been happy shooting with it forever. Tens of thousands of pros have made a living with this camera. In fact, that’s what CHgCanon shoots, and if you look at his work, it is exemplary.
