Why don’t ‘hogs’ post on Instagram also, or do they?

I know Instagram is a communication device but have never wanted to join. Can you list any advantages over UHH, personal emails or even FB?

Some of us do

It's more for my friends that don't use Flickr/500px/forums, etc...

The average member age on this site is rather advanced. Some remember distinctly when the dinosaurs still roamed wild ....

IG can be many things, rather like FB in terms of content and advertising. But, it's also a popular location for 'real' and 'active' photographers. That might be less interesting than talking about equipment and critiquing spelling and grammar.

Check people's signature lines. You can find the IG posting members from their IG references. There's some.

I've no need for Instagram.
Facebook is quite sufficient for keeping in contact with friends and family.
Then there's phone messaging.

I opened an Instagram account just recently after I attended a model photo shoot. The model contacted me afterwards because she wanted to post one of my photos on her Instagram page and give me credit for the photo. I loaded the photos I took of her on my new Instagram page.

Instagram is really set up to use with mobile devices like smart phones and tablets. If you access it on a computer, you need to put it in mobile mode in order to upload photos to it. There are videos online that show how to do this. Instagram crops all photos into a square format. That cuts off important parts of the photos. I first took my photos into Photoshop and did an expand canvas in order to make it into a square format. I made the expanded canvas white so it would blend into the Instagram background.

Insta-gram.....Also owned by FACEBOOK. Same politics, so I wont advise becoming a member..RJM. We are advised on the Hogg to “not do politics” so in an effort at NEUTRALITY, I will only say, we cant allow unbridled political impact by ANY BIG-DEAL businesss, on our lives, or our political preferences....RJM

There are many active film photographers on Instagram. And it no longer crops all photos to square.

"...it's also a popular location for 'real' and 'active' photographers..." Bingo! CHG_CANON speaks with authoritative wisdom here... 90% of my time is on IG where I have over 600 followers... many of those I've previously worked with on assignments... I honestly don't know any commercial shooters in my market who aren't on IG. It's a stellar resource for booking work especially if you shoot fashion and/or beauty genre...

btw, the lion's share of my paid gigs now come from IG... mostly "tween" and childmodels whose parents book me to generate a portfolio imagery...

And the best thing about IG is it enforces "Community Standards" and removing posts and users who violate these... Thus "creepers" are eliminated from the platform... it is pretty much "family" safe...

btw, some of the greatest masters of photography are on IG... see below

I have an Instagram acct and have over 4000 followers. I use it for wildlife photos. I use chrome and left click on the phone to load photos. It allows me to move the photo and expand the area. No need to modify the photo before loading it to the site.

Paul you are correct. I remember as a child going hunting for T-Rex with my father and uncles. I did bag one in my early 20's, about a Million or so years ago. Or was it a Billion years ago? I don't recall. Pretty soon we will be talking about real millenniums here.

I've heard the term, but that's about it. I don't bother with any of those social things. I have a FB account, but that's about it. The only time I look on FB is when I get a notice that a friend posted something.

"Some remember distinctly when the dinosaurs still roamed wild ...." Ah, the wonderful photo ops we had back then - the good old days!

I tried Instagram for three weeks and then deleted the app. Far too many advertisements that step all over your posts and it drove me crazy that I could not stop them. If someone is going to make money off my efforts it’s going to be me, not some computer programmer.
Then too there’s the data usage from that app. It tracks you and is constantly sucking data from your phone. I was using it in 2018 on a European tour and found that it devoured the total monthly allowable usage on my international data plan in just two weeks. Once I deleted it, my usage went back to the normal low amounts.
But I think the thing that concerned me most was the constant tracking. It even scooped up the data that I generated when using my web browser.
