Polar Backup which runs on the Amazon AWS platform has a sale going on for 5TB for a lifetime fee of 99.00. This is cold storage but it will restore your files in 3-12 hours. I put my data up there and when I did a download request I had the files in less than the 3 hours. This is great for photo projects and any other data backup. Runs on Windows and Mac.

Thanks for that, but my data isn't worth $99.

Excuse me??? AWS is the most reliable service in the technology market. Most fortune 500's use it for cold storage. Not reliable?

To whom are you responding? I have seen no negative comments.

They didn't say AWS was unreliable; said their data wasn't worth the cost to save it.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Although I never trust 100% this one-payment lifetime services as it is clearly not sustainable in the mid and long terms, I will check this one.

A question that I have is, it took 3 hours for you to get a single file to download?
It that is the case, how long would take a bigger or event total download/restore?

Looks like archiving more than backup, and one with very slow access :-/

The file upload/ download is just as fast as your internet. This is "cold" storage which doesn't give you the same features and retrieval access times as "hot" storage. At 5 Tb, they are making money. The normal expectation for cold storage is that you are not uploading/downloading all of the time but using it to store files that you might need later. Cold storage is very inexpensive they have just written a wrapper around AWS storage.

When I still had my development company, I uses AWS to store old versions of our software and all of customers configurations.

This is what makes UHH so great. I learn something useful here every once in a while. ;-)

It's the randomness that makes it so rewarding.

Explain the need for offsite storage, please.
