Hi all! Usually at this time of year I'm involved with marching bands and color guards (read: sports) so, since covid has taken that away I've gotten into surfing and related motion-type things to keep my chops up and maybe explore some new territory. Well, just up the road from my favorite pier haunt is the Bolsa Chica Wetlands (north of Huntington Beach) and I thought "why not?" and gave the bird thing a try. Shot with a 200-500 f5.6 hooked to a D500, the day was cloudy so that probably helped me not totally blow out (I think I did a little in this first image) and I just used my pageantry settings, nothing special; aperture priority and some manual later, f5.6 mostly and 400 ISO which I probably shouldn't with the D500 but it's habit from using my D5 all the time (I think the D500 is pretty noisy in comparison)...I'm SO not patient, lol, but maybe have to learn how to meditate...any input would be appreciated.

Love Bolsa Chica. Lots of opportunities. Assume these are crops. I would give the bird a bit more room in the frame. Nicely done. White bird exposures can be tough.
