First trip to Niagara Falls...

in many years. This was a partly cloudy day. I set up and started shooting around 1 p.m. D5500, Sigma 10-20mm, Sigma 17-70mm and Nikkor 70-300mm. Some shots hand-held, others using my monopod.
The cloud was intermittently blocking the Sun and the lighting was changing dramatically from one minute to the next.
It was quite windy, so the plume generated by the Horseshoe Falls was more disperse than on calmer days, but the water around Horseshoe Falls was quite choppy, and the clouds quite ominous from time to time.
The tour boat appears to be climbing uphill because of the oblique angle of the wide-angle lens.
All shots from the Canadian side.
Note the change in lighting as clouds occlude the Sun and as the Sun drops lower in the sky - most noticeable in the last two shots.
The gull was obstructing a view I wanted - it stubbornly refused to go anywhere, so I shot it!
I returned about 10 days later on a sunny day - I will post those soon. There were hardly any visitors to Niagara Falls, most of the shops and attractions were closed, which made for less jostling to get a good shooting location.
Enjoy and feel free to leave comments, criticisms or suggestions which may be useful in helping me to hone my craft. Stay well and don't forget to vote, people died to give you that privilege.

I grew up in Buffalo so have been there many times. When I go home, I always make sure to visit. I love the shots with the plume and Maid of the Mist. Very cool!

Great shots! I've been there several times and the falls are awe-inspiring. While there are higher, wider, and more beautiful falls elsewhere in the world, Niagara Falls far exceeds any falls in the world in the annual volume of water it produces. Iguazu falls exceeds Niagara's volume for a short period during the rainy season but becomes not much more than a trickle at other times. I remember driving in Canada the first time at the falls and needing gas. At that time the price in the US was around 1.19. I pulled up to a pump and saw the gas was only 38 cents. Wow, I thought this was going to be a cheap fill of the tank. Then I found out that was 38 cents per liter!

Nice series of pics. I was there back in the mid to late 80's & took some 35 film pics with a Canon AE1 /50mm lens. Back then I remember only one lower viewing platform. Your first photo is very different than mine & makes the falls look a lot lower in height. Thanks for sharing, brings back memories.

You captured it well. I've visited there three times. When crossing into Canada on my last trip there I accidentally handed the border guard my library card instead of my passport. I was hoping he didn't think I was trying to be a jokester.

Beautiful, just beautiful. The colors in the first 3 shots reminded me immediately of paintings done of Niagara Falls by Fredrick Church. It was cloudy when we were there about 15 years ago and my pictures look nothing like yours.
