Can't Open .NEF files from Bridge 2021

Recently "up"graded Photoshop, Bridge, and ACR. Now, when I try to open a raw file, in my case a .NEF file, I get this:

The Camera Raw settings could not be applied because there were no Camera Raw files selected or selected files were read-only.

However, if I select the same file from my iMac's (2017, latest iOS, 10.15.7) Finder app, it opens into ACR as it should. Clumsy and pretty inconvenient, but it works, and it seems to me that it shows the files themselves are ok.

Now, I have two external drives, one for 2004 to 2018, and another for 2019 and up. Both are formatted the same: Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The problem only happens on the disk with the more recent files. Indeed, copying a file that opens on the "older" disk to the "newer" one leaves the file un-openable from Bridge, but it still opens from Finder.

Some history: I had similar problems with Bridge 2020, and the Adobe technical geniuses, after several hours on three separate telephone calls, came up with this solution: use Bridge 2019, where, indeed, everything worked. However, when I try that trick now, it says the new ACR is incompatible with Bridge 2019.

I'll be calling Adobe again when I can find some uninterruptible hours after some more pressing personal issues get resolved on Tuesday. In the meantime, any ideas about a workaround for this?

Instead of getting in the phone que, try posting this same text in the Adobe sponsored Bridge user forum. https://community.adobe.com/t5/bridge/bd-p/bridge?page=1&sort=latest_replies&filter=all

Thanks bsprague; I appreciate the suggestion.

I posted it, and we'll see what we see. Why am I not optimistic? Still, ez-peezee, and nothing to lose.

I found an interesting post in the Adobe Bridge forum: "Open a RAW photo from Bridge In Photoshop and let ACR load there. ACR should then work directly from Bridge." Somehow using it in Photoshop must trigger a switch in Bridge to make it work independently. Does it work? On mine, it does with Panasonic RAW files.

Tried it - nothing happens. It doesn't load, it doesn't complain, nothing.

However, if I do File > Open, it takes me to Finder, from which I can open a file and it goes to ACR. Command-O opens nothing from Bridge.

Recently "up"graded Photoshop, Bridge, a... (show quote)

.NEF files open on my version of Bridge installed last week.

Perhaps uninstall Bridge and the Re-install.

Recall: I can open files from Bridge on the "old" disk, just not on the "new" disk.

It is unclear to me. Are you opening a RAW file (.NEF ?) from Photoshop CC. I just tried this and it opened straight away into ACR.

What is the "new disk"? I am obviously missing something here. If you are speaking of a new external drive, check with "get info" and make sure you have read and write permissions. Otherwise I have not idea what your set up is.

I have one external drive for images from '04 to '18, and another for images thereafter. The first drive works as I would expect, not the second. Both are formatted the same, and all images show read-write for everyone.
