An oldie but a goodie.

Our protagonist, a mild-mannered businessman Don, who was in San Francisco on a business trip. Finding himself free for the afternoon he decided to explore and soon found himself in a quaint old antique shop near Fisherman’s Wharf. Roaming the aisles, he found a magnificent, life-sized golden statue of a rat. Being taken by it’s beauty, he took it to the front of the store.

Seeing the statue, the proprietor smiled and said Oh, I see you have found the rat. How much asked Don. The proprietor answered $10 for the statue and $100 for the story. Don did not question but handed the proprietor $10 and left the store with the rat in a paper bag.

Wandering down the wharf district he soon heard a scuffling sound coming from an alley. He looked but did not see anything. Soon, hearing more sounds he looked as saw a couple of rats following him but thought little of it. Before long there were more rats and they were getting closer. Don was starting to get concerned and walked faster. Then there were hundreds of rats and they were chasing Don. Don ran and soon was out on a wharf. Thousands of rats were charging at Don. He ran to the end of the wharf and in despair threw the golden rat out into the bay. The rats charged past Don and jumped into the bay after the statue.

Our next scene finds Don back in the store. The proprietor smiles and asks Don if he would like to buy the story. Don declines and asks the proprietor if he happens to have a golden democrat.

I'll bet they don't let you anywhere near the stage at the Improv... Don't quit your day job.
