I took the long way home from Breckenridge last week over the old narrow-gauge route on Boreas Pass. The aspens had dropped all their leaves, but the weather was wonderful, and the crowds were gone. The rail route which was built to support gold mining in Breckenridge needed a lot of wood, and many of the trees were removed, leaving the stumps like tombstones at high elevation as in number 6. It will take a very long time for that tiny tree in number 7 to reach the size of the tree that used to occupy that spot. The antelope were at the Como end of the pass. That's me contemplating Red Mountain in the last frame.
As good a justification for taking the long way home as I have ever seen.

Great scenery!
Thanks! It's hard not to get a few nice shots in Colorado. Even after forty years, I still am amazed by it.

The funny thing is, I then proceeded Southwest, away from Boulder, to see the Collegiate Peaks south of Leadville. I'll post some of those later. In all, I turned a two-hour trip into over seven hours and loved every minute of it.
Thanks for the comments, everyone. You are all an inspiration to me and I enjoy learning from this forum.
