I'm a huge fan of Topaz products and maybe I should have sent a PM to AZPicLady.
I just thought that a lot of Topaz users could benefit from my "lessons learned" follow-up to both her and your posts.
See you around campus.

Not at all! I'm here to learn. Sometimes I can share the little bit that I know. I did not know that there were so many Topaz fans, nor did I know that their noise program was so powerful. I'm just a skilled amateur and do not keep up with the latest tools. I fall into old habits. LR=>DxO for noise reduction and correction of lens errors is one of those habits. It's my impression that DxO PL2 and Topaz play nice together and there was not a problem using first using DxO.

I keep seeing the advertisements for Topaz AI and how it can improve lost details in photos. I never believed the examples they provided a with the slider bar that dragged across a photo magically producing more detail.

Recently I had an occasion to see what Topaz AI could do for me with I photo that I took of the fall foliage.

Here is the full photo, an example of small section from the center of the photo prior to using Topaz, and that same section after Topaz was used:

Amazing!

I too am a believer in Topaz Lab's products. As they rotate the sales, you can pick up which one you want when it goes on sale. Coupons/discount codes work on top of the sales price. They also have package deals that go on sale. Any product you already have is removed from the package price. Over the past year, I've picked up all of them, and, like you, very impressed with what they can do.

Topaz is a very good company offering all kind of editing softwares. Their customer service is not precisely the best.
I downloaded the new version of Denoise AI, the one we have to pay for, and ever since I get a crash after another. A week ago I sent an email to the Customer Service Department explaining my issues to them. Not an answer. I cannot use Denoise AI in my computer, except for the old version.
My request for help was simply ignored....and I know I am not alone.

Sorry to learn that. Maybe it's COVID thing? I hope they get back with you and give you support.

Edit____
Check to see if you have other programs running in the background. Turn them off if you don't need them. Topaz programs are memory hogs (need a lot of RAM)!

I sometimes forget that I have DxO running but not using it. I'll then open PS and later experience a program crash. It took me while to understand the problem. My next computer is going to have all the RAM I can shove into it.

I hope this helps.

Topaz did a good job. I see you used a Sony prime 600mm f4. Do all your pics with this lens come out similarly blurry?

Dave, the Topaz AI program does make a good looking picture. And if you are doing stock photo work such as submitting photos to Shutterstock for review and possible selling, then this would be a good process to be able to apply. Stock photos are generally not being sold as authentic photos of something.

Just remember that much of AI does is to add information into your photo that it has learned (referred to as machine learning) often appears in photos similar to yours. Millions of photos may be run through an algorithm to teach it what typically shows up in certain environments of missing data. If one is concerned about authenticity, then adding info in that was never there to begin with is like "faking" your picture.

"Guide to Image Inpainting: Using machine learning to edit and correct defects in photos" ( https://heartbeat.fritz.ai/guide-to-image-inpainting-using-machine-learning-to-edit-and-correct-defects-in-photos-3c1b0e13bbd0 ) gives an interesting tutorial on the process.

Just someting to keep in mind. --Richard
