Has anybody delt with AVA Direct? They are a custom computer building company located in Twinsburg, Ohio. Their in-house brand is Clevo, but they also build a few others such as MSI. I'm just looking for input and opinions from anyone who has talked to, or bought from them

Before dealing with a company so far away, I would check out local shops. From what I've heard, they all build computers for customers, and it's easier to deal with someone who's just a few miles away. I built a couple four years ago. It was fun but challenging. Don't expect a low cost for a custom build. Mine cost $1,514, and my son's was $1,455. My Asus motherboard went bad within a few months. They had stopped making that model, so I had to end it to them and wait for it to be repaired.

I would recommend getting an NVME M.2 drive in place of a HDD or SSD. When I built mine, only the SATA M.2 was available, and the NVME is at least four times faster.

I haven't dealt with AVA, but I do use a similar system builder, Xotic PC, in Lincoln, Nebraska. They've been around since 1999, and use Clevo, Sager, MSI, Asus, Dell, etc. I've been using them since 2011, and have recommended them to many happy users. They primarily cater to gamers, but there is considerable overlap in system requirements between gaming, photo editing and video editing, so it isn't hard to put something together for a reasonable price.

Recently I got a laptop with the following specs:

Clevo motherboard
i7-10875H cpu
Nvidia RTX 2060 with 8GB vram
Support for up to 4 simultaneous displays
32 gb ram, expandable to 64
(2) 2 TB NVMe PCIe m.2 Gen 3 drives
15.6" matte screen
Cooling and overclocking upgrades
Win10 Pro

Total price was $2200.

I have been on this quest for a year. If I could find someone closer to me to build me a laptop, I would. AVA is probably less than 3 hours by car from me, the closest I have found. And yes, I will specify NVMe M.2 drives.

I would prefer Samsung or Intel NVME m.2 SSDs. Not sure who WD is sourcing their SSDs from, but they are relatively new to the SSD game, and no real track record for longevity. Also, how much VRAM on the NVidia card?
And I wouldn’t pay anything extra for McAfee...

As an FYI...My last computer was built by a local company I have been dealing with since the 90's. I ask for the parts I want, and he gets them for me for cost. He assembles and trouble shoots all the issues prior to giving the computer back to me. Last time, I had a Win 10 Failure where my only option was to format my "C" drive. I decided that the system was old enough (10 yrs) to update the motherboard, processor, ram and Video card. I already have a tower case with 7 HD's and a 1200 watt power supply. I now have an I9 processor, ASUS MB, and an Nvidia 8 Gb Video Card.

a number of years ago I bought a clevo laptop they've been making laptops for a number years. They were way ahead back then. Never had a problem with the laptop it cost me 3k back in the 90's but like i said they were way ahead of the game. And I'm in Idaho
