Thanks for looking and comment John. the Large 'Housesteads' fort nearby is huge, and the museum there has some fantastic finds on show. They recently unearthed some clay writing tablets that had been discarded by the soldiers there, and one was asking for some warm underclothing and socks.Many of the troops stationed there were of course from the warm Mediterranean area...they must have thought they were being punished for being stationed in such a wild (dangerous) and cold place. When we were ther a few years ago, the carpark was full of coaches from Italy, they must come over to see the remotest part of their ancestors empire.
