I haven't sold anything to them but I have the impression that they don't offer very much for anything used. I have all my used cameras, etc in a glass display cabinet in my home office. I think I will hang on to them until I die and let my family do what they will with them.

Greetings
Has anyone sold their used cameras to KEH Camera? What was your experience?
Thank you

If your like me and like to get the most out of your used equipment, it is a lot like selling your used car. If you sell it your self instead of trading it in and you will end up with a LOT more money in your pocket.
Yes, of course trading in is easier, but I like to retain as much money in MY pocket as possible. That is why I sell my stuff HERE if I can, I use paypal and they get 3% and I get the rest, which, is a LOT more than if I traded it in. If, after my stuff has been on here 2 weeks without selling, I then place it on Ebay. Ebay takes 10% and paypal takes their 3% but guess what, I still make about 40-70% more by doing this myself than by trading it in. If you have money to BURN, and you want to go the easy route, trade it in. BUT, if your like me and like to hear the extra jingle of a LOT more coin in your pocket, cause new equipment is not cheap, then do what I do, sell it yourself and come out MONEY ahead everytime.

I’ve only bought from them but I traded in a lens to MPB and they were great and easy to work with.

Thank you

I have sold and purchased several lenses and cameras with KEH. Excellent company to work with. I had no issues with them.

However, be aware that they are in the business of buying and selling equipment to make a profit. So your offers will be at the low or "wholesale" level. If you want the "retail" value for your items you need to sell it yourself online through ebay, craigslist, etc. Of course then you have to handle all the extra details yourself such as packing, shipping, and making sure it reaches your buyer in good shape.

When selling to KEH, B&H, Adorama and others, they will handle all these details for you. Also, all the big camera companies do online quotes and offers. Check them all out.

I have used KEH and had good success, and I have also used MPB out of NYC, and I would have no problem dealing with either of them in the future.

Excellent dealing with KEH. I brought a bunch of old cams to them when they were in town. Easy to do they valued it and gave me a check on the spot. Could I have sold them for more? Probably but then I would have to deal with all the individual people coming to my house to look at one item. No thanks.

Thank you. Good choice.

I have sold to mpb and keh. Bought from both also. mpb pays more for most used equipment. Both are equally good in my opinion.

I sold a camera including it's battery to MPB. They lost the battery (that they had valued at $5.) and didn't believe that I sent it. They chiseled me out of the $5. I will never deal with them again. It's not the money it's the principal.

That's good to know. That was a question I had. I was curious about sending my equipment to them and not having a receipt of the contents of package.

The Fred Miranda website is a great place to sell to knowledgeable shutterbugs. You need to pay to list, but it is a nominal amount. I’ve sold many lenses and bodies on that site, and if priced correctly, you should get a retail price, rather than a wholesale price.

Thank you.

In selling used equipment to KEH or anyone else, one needs to keep in mind they are wanting to profit. Buy low, sell as used.

You are absolutely right. However, I am helping my aunt dispose of a collection of vintage cameras. I need an easy way for her to handle it. She is 1000 miles away from me and is not computer savvy.

I have recently sold used cameras and lenses to KEH and want to avoid that experience again. KEH offers a standard value for one's equipment on-line that sounds very reasonable until you send them your gear. Then they always find some undisclosed problem with your gear, be it dust or fungus in the elements -- not that it would show up in photos mind you, but it is there. Now your nice lens becomes worth almost nothing, and rather than shipping it back you elect to take the dust bin price for the lens. I think they wield a very effective program for their used business. I have to recognize that their inspections are more rigorous than any I could do, but I can't shake this feeling that they find a spec of dust in every used lens they receive. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
