Homer, The Iliad book 18.

Quickly scanning it, I couldn't find anything close:

https://www.theoi.com/Text/HomerIliad18.html

(I searched for "cold", "dead" and "hands", figuring at least one of those words would be part of the line, but found nothing)

I should have checked or maybe submitted my thought in the form of a question. I can't explain why or how it happened but I've associated "cold dead hands" with Homer for too many years. But I know it was used long before it was written into the script of a film. I don't have enough time to give on the topic but a quick search brought up Michael Cart. This is what he said, "In fact, when I finally shuffle off this mortal coil, you will have to pry a book out of my cold, dead hands." All authors borrow from the past.

unable. Michael Cart is still alive, so it's difficult to tell whether his quote preceded Red Dawn or not.

Whether Homer or Cart, the idea of having to remove something from someone's cold dead hands or fingers didn't originate in a 1984 movie script. The concept of fighting to the death for anything tangible or intangible dates all the way back to origins of literature itself. One could certainly give credit to the screen writers for using the phrase or an adaptation of the phrase for dramatic affect. I would have to go back over 50 years ago to be able to tell you the topic and exact time I participated in a discussion that included the phrase. What I do know for sure is that I did long before the movie Red Dawn and well before the internet existed. If I ever remember or discover the original source I will make sure the internet learns of it.

Funny! I didn't remember this scene. Anyway, the advertising on You Tube has gotten almost unbearable. No way I'm paying another "fee" to have it removed. I've seen fifteen minute vids that have as many as FIVE ads that interrupt play!

Unfortunately, no. But I remember the guy getting shot and the invader removing the gun from his hand,

Thought ewe...

I remember seeing that on the bumper as well in the movie.
