Did it say what the update was for? The only update I could find was from 2016 and predated my lens build date.

Yes. It is that one. It affects autofocus.

My lens also had to go in 2015 for VR issue.

You put in your lens SN to check. If yes Nikon pays shipping both ways.

The Z7 and 24-200 combo is very light (2.8 lb), ideal for traveling. But I have not gone anywhere with the new lens except backyard!

The first photo is straight out of camera, a solar panel installation job on my neighbor’s roof. The amber color cast was due to forest fire impact throughout California. The next two are with some editing. I am happy with details which are pretty decent. I have not yet compared it with 24-70, 70-200 f/2.8 but for the price and light weight, I am thrilled.

And also, why do you have to send it in for a firmware update? It’s simple to do yourself.

Why doesn't Nikon make a 24-200 for a full frame ?

Uh, that is what we are discussing.

Are you asking if they have an F mount one? They do have a 28-300. I just sold mine.

Interesting. I was sure I’d done it before the same way as the camera. Maybe that was the Panasonic.

It depends on the item and the date of manufacture. I was able to update my WR-10 remote through the camera. Older ones had to be sent to Nikon.

Has anyone gotten theirs yet?

If so, do you mind sharing when ordered and received and who from?

Ordered last month from Adorama and they have no clue on availability.

I ordered it in July and got it 2 weeks ago. I ordered from a local camera store here in Colorado

Nikon does have a firmware program that tells the camera about lens corrections. You can update that firmware in camera.

But the firmware I addressed is in the lens. Nikon does not provide the ability to update that. I believe the lens has to be partially disassembled to access the firmware.

Some lenses like Tamron do have user update capability.

Sent the lens out yesterday.

Thanks. I’ve decided to be patient on that and satisfy my GAS by getting a Z50 2 lens kit to amuse while waiting.

Thanks for advice and image.

Our local camera store is closing. But we have a Best Buy I can try.

Fussing around on the Nikon site I learned I need to send my 200-500 in for another (free) firmware update. And I am close to convincing myself I need a Z50 with two lens kit. The 50-250 would fill in for now. Plus I can use 18-300 or 70-300 on it w FTZ adapter.

Meanwhile I have FX and DX 70-300s I can use...the latter on my D5600. If I go with the Z50 the D5600 and some of its lenses will go down the road. And maybe even my GM5 with two lenses.
Thanks for advice and image. br br Our local came... (show quote)

The Z50 with kit lenses are a good choice. It was the biggest Nikon surprise I had this year. I also have all the other Zs.

You're going to enjoy the Z50. I got it with the 2 kit lenses and it covers what I want in an easy to carry kit.
It won't replace my Z6, but it gets used more than I expected.
