The golden pheasant...what a ridiculously gorgeous bird. It's like a Chagall in feathers. How wonderful it must be to have these creatures in your life.
someone in our part of the country had a pair of Lady Amherst's that got loose. They survived in our country side for several years. Was a real treat to see them scratching in the yard from time to time and watching them running through the snow in the winter. I used to live in the middle of Nebraska where pheasants were plentiful but sense moving to Eastern Kansas twenty some years back I have missed them. I was hoping that the Lady Amherst's would have survived to reproduce but no such luck. They disappeared sometime before last winter. All I have now is a few photos I took through the windows in the house.
Thanks Pammerh. Strange that this variety is called a Golden Pheasant when in fact there is little gold color on it. I have another variety that is gold all over but is called a yellow golden.
Thanks Coca1964. It is fun sitting in the aviary and photographing these beautiful birds. I have natural cover planted in the aviary and I have a copper pheasant that I waited about two years for one to become available. When the sun hits him he shines all over like a copper penny but he is very shy and I have yet too get him to come out of the cover when I am in the avairy.
