If you have a dog like this, you'll appreciate the cartoon. Our dachshund barks even if a doorbell rings on TV.

A few years ago I got in trouble (and was saved by the doorbell). I had left the gate to the backyard open and was off playing golf. The dogs (2 Maltese) disappeared. My wife searched frantically and could not find them. She called the neighbors to help look for them, one of whom suggested that she ring the doorbell. And the dogs, who had been in the house the whole time, came running and barking.

When I moved back to WV my wife specified no doorbell because of our dog. I installed a driveway monitor that sounds almost like a doorbell when a vehicle arrives. It also goes off all hours of the night if deer or even a strange dog wonders by. Great tool but does have its drawbacks.

All dogs have their unique quirks. Only a dachshund owner will understand many of them.
For instance, the word 'Fear' is not in their vocabulary.
You will fall in love with them. They will not allow you not too.
Besides, it's a big dog that comes in a cute little package.
It's 2 dogs long and a half a dog high, with a serious attitude a half inch off the floor!

After more than 30 years with them I lost my last one a few years ago.
I did not want to leave one behind if I went first.
I still miss every one of them.

A few years ago a TV commercial had both sounds of a doorbell and a phone ringing. My Beagle howled at the doorbell sound and I got up to answer the phone. They say owners are like their dogs...

My son had a Lab/Bird dog mix, who would ring(!) the doorbell himself, when he wanted into the garage. Sometimes at 11:00 p.m.,or midnight! Who is ringing the doorbell at this time of the night? Very smart dog!

Haha. Try it with a little Yorkie. You'll never have anyone sneak up on you.
