We have had a lot of smoke here is the Salt Lake Valley from the wildfires in Utah and California. These photos of the sun taken earlier this week at around 7:00 pm as it disappears into the smoke. Interesting time for photos but a sad situation for those affected by and involved in the fires.

I feel your pain....I live just outside the evacuation area of the El Dorado fire buring in southern California. We haven't seen blue skies since Saturday late morning or early afternoon. Our granddaughter was here so we were out at the pool earlier than ususal because of the heat. That fire started, so they claim around 10:30 AM, by 11:00 AM we smelled the smoke and I thought one of my neighbors was smoking some meat, by 12 or 12:30 the skies around us turned gray and overcast just as your photo depicts. By 2:30 or 3:00 PM we had ash falling in our yard. My pool looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks with so much ash. Other than going to our mailroom to pick up mail, we haven't been outside since as it smells like someone has their fireplace going. In the first couple of days of the fire we could see flames from our driveway, especially at night. However, the fire has moved and has burned some 11,000 acres plus...now we just see lots of smoke and the smell of smoke is very strong. Stay safe out there. Thanks for sharing your experiences and photos of the fire and I hope you don't mind that I shared my experiences.

Thanks for sharing. My brother lost his home in the Redding fires two years ago. He barely escaped with his life. He saw his house burst into flames through the rear view mirror of his truck as he pulled away. Having just finished rebuilding, his house overlooks the Sacramento River Valley, his is struggling with all the smoke and flashbacks of two years ago. Tough times, stay safe!
