I'm a black ant that is part of a very large family. I found this black Carpenter Ant foraging around the trash can as I was setting the trash out this afternoon. I've learned to keep an empty pill bottle in my pocket when I go outdoors for I never know what I may find.

I brought it in and staged it for a focus stacking session. I left the size #000 insect mounting pin (0.25mm) in it to illustrate how it was set up and to put a perspective to its size.

As I have often said, "What would a picnic be without them!"

Thanks, Fotoartist. Ants are truly one of the dinosaurs among us for it is believed that they were on earth some 160-million years ago. That's almost as long as it would take for me to do all of the things that my Better Half wants me to do around the house.

Thanks, Greg. They are quite industrious with a single goal in mind, "Serve the Queen". Uh...come to think of it...my Better Half believes that should be my goal.
