For some reason I am getting online ads (here on the Hog) for this device that promises to allow you to receive "most" cable channels free. All you need to do is buy the device for a one time fee of about $112, plug it in, and cancel your cable subscription. Any comments or experience on this device? Reminds me of the bogus real estate ad selling ocean front lots in Yuma, AZ.

Possibly over the internet?
(I wouldn't.)

Could it be someone buying devices (firestick, firetv, roku, etc...) and loading Kodi with other repositories? I knew people that got into that "business" and made some very decent money providing all the tech support for streaming services. It's not exactly legal, so buyer beware.

Again, I don't know if that is the same as what is being advertised here, but it sounds the same.

I got the item name backwards. It's TVfix. FWIW.

Yeah, forget all the Kodi and illegal repo stuff....lol

All it does is provides a source to load apps (YouTube, FB, Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc....) So the only free stuff you can watch is available for free on your phone or computer. This is basically the same type of device as the Roku or FireTV.

In all honest, most modern Smart TVs provide this already. We have all but abandoned our FireTV for Netflix and all the others. The only thing I use it for now is Kodi.

You would need reliable, high speed internet as it simply "casts" to the television what you could look at directly on your computer. As John said, some is free, some not.

If you're looking for content and schedules similar to satellite or cable offerings, you would need to pay for a streaming service such as YouTube TV or Hulu. Sometimes there are substantial savings, depending on what you were paying already. YouTube TV recently went up to $69/month (+ sales tax if applicable) for 85 channels and free DVR (online). As I mentioned, you need internet to use it:

It gets them - but you have to subscribe to the various services to watch them.

There was a similar device advertised a while back. Same idea - plug it in and get free TV.
