I've loved my D500 for the short time I've had it.
From what everyon has shared on UHH I feel the urge to move up to an FX in the D850.
I feel confident I'm getting an honest trade in from my friends in Auburn Al. (Camera Graphics).
I have two FX lenses 70-200 and 150-600. All I will need to add is an everyday wide angle/ short lens.
If anyone has some thoughts I'll be happy to listen.
BTW, I'm getting a slightly used camera with 10,000 accusations and the grip. Thanks

Who cares what other people say or think? Are you happy with your D500? What do you need that your D500 won’t give you that a D850 will?

Why not the Z 7?

A home run is worth more than two doubles. So is a full frame camera.

10,000 accusations and the grip?

In a previous Century, that would represent a very successful career in The Spanish Inquisition.

Hurry hurry hurry and satisfy that urge!!! Then you will get approval from UHHers who feel superior because they use FX cameras. But why stop there? If Fx is So much better than Dx then surely medium format must be way way better than FX. So why stop in the middle? Jump right up to medium format.

As for me, I have never had the urge to go to full frame, even though much of my work is done in low light. I started with APS-C and have never had a desire to change. I guess, if I had started with M4/3 I would have stuck with it.

Don't listen to the naysayers, go full frame and never look back. Of course you could keep the D500 and have the best of both worlds. And who knows, there might be a medium format in your future. I still lust after one.

I'm not sure. Not really doing it for anyone but me.
I just turned 70 and figure "what the heck". My brother in law always said, "it only costs a little more to go first class.
I want to have whatever extra the camera can deliver. The rest is on me..

Keep your D500. I have two D500's. I got the Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II VC HLD lens for my D500's and D7500. It's considered to be the best ultrawide angle zoom for cropped sensor cameras right now. It's fully weather sealed and the HLD (High/Low torque modulated drive) autofocus is very accurate. It weighs 439 grams. A comparable full frame wide angle zoom is considerably heavier.

Your decision to go with full frame is OK. Going with the D850 is a good choice because the handling is virtually identical the D500. The D500 shoots faster than the D850, but at 7fps the D850 is no slouch.

Enjoy!
