Power Tool Rechargeable Batteries

Over the years, since the advent of cordless power tools, I've owned a number of them in multiple types of battery configurations. From 12v DeWalt, to 14.4v Makita, to 20v Kawasaki, etc. I also own a couple of Milwaukee M12 tools, and they're very handy for the small jobs. I finally gave up on the Makita and Kawasaki, scrapped the drills, and sent the batteries to recycling centers.

I'm the owner of several DeWalt 18v power tools - Variable speed drill, impact driver, circular saw, and jig saw. All work very nicely, but the batteries have lost charging ability over time, and have been replaced. I bought a DeWalt 20v reciprocating saw, and I'm very impressed with the charge holding and quality. Earlier this week, Home Depot offered a DeWalt 20v drill (or impact driver), two batteries, charger, and carry bag for $109 + tax (normally $160). I ordered it, and am impressed again with the performance.

Now comes the rub. I saw an adapter that allows using 20v batteries on the 18v drills. Has anyone used the adapter, and if so, what's your opinion? The DeWalt is $32 +/-, and the no-names are about $14 on "the Bay". Seems like a good deal to keep these tools active.

Most likely the adapter is a dc-dc converter. This would work fine if properly designed for the current draw and required heat sinking. IMO, you could easily harm your 20v batteries as at 18volts, the current would be greater (10%) assuming the same torque. Don’t try it out in a house or garage just in case.

Every dealing I've had with E Bay I have gotten stung. I pay by credit card through pay pal. They take my money and send me nothing. I notifiy E Bay and they tell me there is no listing of that transaction. So I go to Pay pal and they tell me the same thing. The only one that knows anything about the transaction is my credit card company when e bay with drew the amount of the purchase. This happened EVERY time. I ceased dealings with E Bay and Pay Pal a long time ago, more than ten years and still get notification from them that something strange is going on with my account. Just be careful
