I have seen posts in other discussion forums where people have changed from the Nikon Z system to Fuji X-T system. Has anyone in the group switched from the Fuji X-T system to the Nikon Z system? Why and what is your satisfaction with the change?

Well I haven't switched from the Fuji to the Nikon, I added the Nikon. I've been using Fuji X cameras since 2013 when I did switch from Canon 5d systems. I have the Fuji XT-2 and XT-4 and now also the Nikon Z7. To round it out I also have my most used camera a Canon G7 compact.

I like the Z7 and I've enjoyed using it the past couple months. It's a fantastic camera. But the bottom line is the same bottom line that made me switch back in 2013. FF lenses are bigger and heavier -- there's no getting around that. So yesterday I went for a walk in the neighborhood. I took the XT-4. Yesterday afternoon I needed a quick snapshot and grabbed the G7. Day before yesterday I went for a walk in the park and I took the XT-4. Day before that I went out in the garden to photograph the cannas and took the XT-2. And there's the pattern; breaking out the Z7 is more effort. I like to go out to the garden and photo the flowers. The XT-2 with the 60mm Rodagon I use to do that weighs less than the 100mm macro lens I have for the Z7. I can put the XT-2 with that 60mm Rodagon on my little compact tripod. I have to break out the big tripod to use the Z7 with 100mm macro.

The Z7 with it's FF sensor takes a better quality photo than my other cameras. But I'm using it the least.

Joe

Joe, I have both a Nikon D750 and the Fuji XT-2 but have been thinking about upgrading to the XT-4. As I approach 80 years old I really don't need 2 entirely different systems - Nikon and Fujifilm since they are radically different platforms. The D750 with my Tamron 24-70 G2 is heavy as a walk-around camera and so I tend to take the XT-2 because it is smaller and lighter in weight. So I may retire my Nikon gear and stay with Fuji.
Do you feel the upgrade from the XT-2 to the XT-4 is worth it ? I see you have both. ~FiddleMaker

Having just sold all of my Sony full-frame gear and purchased a Fugifilm XT-3, I am interested in this discussion. I am awaiting shipment of my new camera.

I have an X-T2 and just added the X-T3 because of the great sale price and have sold my Nikon equipment a D7500 and Z50 with an assortment of lens. The X-T3 with the 16-80 lens with the hand grip weighs about the same as the D7500 with the 16-80 so there isn't a weight difference but I enjoy using the Fuji more than the Nikon and I like the prime lens Fuji has available something Nikon didn't have available for its DX line. It took me a while to get used to the EVF and at first preferred the optical viewfinder on Nikon but now prefer the EVF of the Fuji. They both take great pictures Nikon just has a different look to them. I love the X-T3 and find myself wanting to and enjoying taking pictures more with it than I did my Nikon. The Nikon was more a tool I used but the Fuji I enjoy and use for fun.

I'm glad I got the XT-4 and was able to do that given the cost. But the improvements aren't what I'd identify as must-have. The LCD is controversial -- the XT-4 has a fully articulated back LCD while the XT-2 has a tilting back LCD. Clearly the fully articulated LCD is a risk and it just begs for an accident to happen and damage it. At the same time 70 year old knees that still want to take a photo from a low perspective position really appreciate that full articulation. I had already begun passing over photos I wanted to take using the XT-2 because my knees said, nope, not doing that one. The XT-4 has stopped the progression of that loss.

Whenever I would go out for an extended time or further than just the backyard with the XT-2 I also stuck an extra battery in some pocket or bag. The XT-4 is breaking me of that requirement. The larger battery in the XT-4 is a big improvment.

The XT-4 has a few new picture taking features like in-camera HDR and improved video (I hear) but I'm just a simple still photographer and could care less. I'm keeping my XT-2 and plan to continue using it as the image quality is the same as the XT-4.

Got out yesterday evening to take some photos and I had the option to take the G7, XT-2, XT-4, or Z7. I took the XT-2. I've been keeping the 16-55 on the XT-4 and if what I want to shoot would best be served using a different lens then I take a different camera rather than change lenses on the XT-4. So yesterday evening I wanted to shoot a close-up of one of our tomato plants and took the XT-2.

I bought my XT-2 with the less expensive 18-55 but it does take a good image. If I upgrade to the XT-4, I would opt for the 16-55 because I like the fact the f/stop ring has visible f/stop settings so that you can preset the f/stop without having to look into the EVF and set it that way. Or perhaps the 18-135mm. I just like to be able to turn a ring and see what f/stop I am using. I must admit that the menu system of the XT-2 is totally different than the menu of the D7000 or the D750 and so I am still learning how to use it.

Late night greetings from an ex-Nikon DX and FX but now long-term Fuji X user.

Gotta say that your question has me flummoxed ! Why, I am asking myself, does someone who watches forums where "people change from Nikon Z to Fuji-X" want to know about "people who have switched the other way"?

Not until I start reading your previous posts do I begin to find a possible answer.

You've been a happy Nikon DX (D90 / D300) user who took on a Fuji X-T1 + 3 lenses (a second system) sometime in 2016.

In May last year you questioned (quite rightly) certain aspects of the T1 and wondered "T3 (much better camera) or Z6 (FF ... and different)"

In Jan of this year you were still "in a tiz" (FF or crop).

Seems to me like you've still not decided ...... FF or Crop.

I was the same back in 2015 - asked the simple question of myself (not 80K others who couldn't really care less) "what's good enough for ME?" - and decided to go with one system only.

Now I operate with one Fuji X-series camera (good enough for me) and 3 prime Fuji XF lenses. I get quite satisfactory images from this set-up and have no need for FF. NB - the T1 was "first generation" - latest T's have improved in leaps and bounds - do your homework.

From your posts you're an interesting "mature" guy who still has his marbles - believe me, it's more fun, and you'll feel better about it, if you make your decisions yourself !

Midnight approaches ...... so g'nite to you !!

You made a great decision. The XT 3 makes you want to shoot. Some suggestions:
1. Go to the Fuji X Weekly web site. One of the best things about the x system is the jpg simulations. There are recipes for different simulations which you will understand when you get the camera.
2. Fuji magazine is worth a try.
3. Dan Bailey has an ebook that will jumpstart your Fuji experience.
4. Kevin Mullins has a website about shadows if you like that type of image.
Strongly recommend the 35mm 1.4 if you like close up work.

I recently upgraded to the XT4 from the XT3. It's a magnificent camera especially with the prime lenses and the 100-400mm lens. I have the Nikon Z7 which is also brilliant especially with the 50mm f1.4 lens. I use the adapter enabling me to use all my other Nikkor lenses. I can't fault either system and use both regularly for different purposes.
