Whats up with my D810 ISO setting

camera is set to M. 1/400 f6 iso 400 fx mode 5fps
af-c , auto wb, Matrix mode. Pretty standard setup.

My ISO currently reads 12800 and above it partially grayed out it says 400. As I change the dial the grayed out changes from 64 to 12800 as selected.

why am I suddenly seeing the 12800 ( camera is set in menu to max 12800 setting) I never saw two different ISO numbers at the same time. What did I do and how do I get it back to normal???

Did you, by some means, activate auto ISO?

There are a number of custom menu options you may have inadvertently selected. Download a pdf of the user manual here

Use ctrl+F to open search box. Type ISO and go through everything. There are some exotic-sounding functions and options

This would be the first thing I would check. Also , go into your menus & set a max iso for auto to maybe 3200.

Thanks everyone, I tried setting max ISO to 3200, didnt work. I already made sure auto ISO is off, I went thru the manual ( i have the one that came with the camera) couldnt find anything that would help.
Im going to do a complete reset , if that works then I'll begin setting it up the way I want and see if or when it happens again..

Is the manual that came with the camera 530 pages? That's the size of the pdf I linked. Sometimes the printed manuals are more of a "quick start" type of doc.

its 502 pages, and the text is too small for old guys.

Menu > Shooting Menu > ISO Sensitivity Settings > ISO Sensitivity Control > On or Off. If you set Off the ISO will be controlled by pressing the ISO button on the left and turning the Main Command Dial. If you select ON (Auto ISO) you can set Maximum Sensitivity and Minimum Shutter Speed.
