There are so many folks who love to smear one another with the claim of racism, so I thought I'd provide some ammunition. Some of you may have seen me post this in response to others, but I feel Paul Harvey and his "If I were the Devil" essay deserve a modern revision....in public.
If I were a racist:
If I really were a racist and wanted to make sure that the black community stayed at the bottom of the earning tier, stayed as dependent as possible on government, and stayed angry, here's what I would do.
1) If I were a racist, I would make sure the media were constantly portraying the black population as powerless to affect change in their own lives.
2) If I were a racist, I would make sure to keep black fathers out of the lives of their children by giving a financial reward to single mothers.
3) If I were a racist, I would promulgate the message that the police are evil.
4) If I were a racist, I would suggest that being black requires adherence to a group mentality and excludes individual thought or opinion.
5) If I were a racist, I would take some of the most capable intellectuals in the black community and send them off for college in institutions that are a tier or two higher than their preparation, ensuring that the dropout rate for a group of high achievers is artificially high.
6) If I were a racist, I would make sure all public discussion of the situation of race relations or the black community focused on the past instead of the future.
7) If I were a racist, I would encourage protest and anger in the black community over external issues to prevent discussions of internal issues.
In short, I'd adopt Democrat policies and positions.
And to honor Mr. Harvey:
