HI folks,
My first posting on this topic site. I want to download an app to find stars and figured you folks would know better than anyone else I cam think of. Please help.
Thanks in advance.
One of the best apps to find your way across the night sky is a free program called Stellarium that's available for any operating system. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. I'll take a look at it.

Here's a Link.
http://stellarium.orgI use it as my entire Planetarium Software.
And it controls my mount for me to slew around the night skies, taking me to objects.
Another good app is Photopills, which has LOTS of astronomical uses.

I use an Ap on my iPhone called SkyView. It is not so much for looking up stars but for identifying what you are looking at. It is an awesome accompaniment to gazing at the night sky.
I have 2, Mobile Observatory and Sky Safari Pro.
I use Mobile Observatory 99% of the time.
I've never tried any of the others.

I like Sky Safari on my iPad/iPhone. Hold the iPad/iPhone up to the sky and it displays essentially what you're seeing. Very handy for finding things.
I use Starry Night Pro on my laptop for planning, FOV's, object information, etc.
Both packages can be used for mount control if you want to go that route.

I have an app on my iPad called Sky View, but it sounds like you want something more sophisticated than this.
You can try Star Walk 2. You can find it in the app store. When I got it, it was 9.99 complete with updates. On a laptop Stellarium really fills the bill for astrophotography. RFB
Many thanks to all of you for your advice. I ended up going for Sky View. I really wanted to be able to point my phone and know what I was looking at. I may want something more later. I'm going to get used to this first.
As always UHH came through for me.
Again, thanks to all who responded.
SkyPortal is a great Android phone app. It's put out by Celestron, and it's based on their Sky Safari Windows app. I'm not sure if there is an Apple version of these two apps for iPhone and Mac.
