Merganzer and ducklings
Aug 1, 2020 12:38:04   #
via the lens Loc: Northern California, near Yosemite NP

Had an opportunity to photo a mom Merganzer with her 19 ducklings! All would not fit on her back at the same time and hard to get them all in a photo. I had to trot along the bank at a distance away to try and stay in front of her. She was moving fairly quickly through the shallow water at the edge of the lake. Eventually it started raining too hard to get a shot any longer.

Processed in LrC and borders added in PS. Nikon D500 and Nikon 500 PF lens.

Great captures of a bird not captured too often. 19 is a lot of kids. Fortunately they forage for themselves from the day they are born without mom needing to feed them.

And here is a shot of one of them foraging as it leaps up to dive into the water.
