After a thunderstorm today, belladonna (amaryllis--"Naked Ladies"), and an okra blossom nearby (close kin to Rose of Sharon and Hibiscus). The base of the okra blossoms are blood red.
Okra is a miraculous food cooked many ways, or raw in salads. I grow it in containers by the porch for food and flowers. Pods, flowers, and leaves can be eaten. For the flowers, remove the stamen (stuff them and roast them if you like).

Very nice. We have the Naked Ladies do well here where it's drier also, but never tried okra.
Not even the Winfrey variety! Not to my taste. But, then I don't like a lot of veggies of the South. However, the flowers are beautiful. And wouldn't have guessed that they were related to the "food".
