There is now way to know exactly how many cases of Covid 19 there really is. Testing is repeated on every person who has been tested positive, And each time there is a positive test is is counted as a case. The infected patient may be counted as a case many times. Therefore the total number of cases as reported is not an accurate number. The number of patients who are actually ill is not counted. It can be argued thyat the disease will NEVER be over, as long as testing is performed. And it can be argued that the testing is purelly political. As the number of cases makes Trump look bad. And yes I checked with CDC testing procedures

An important matrix would be to know the number of hospitalized patients on a current basis. For example, I recently went to a major hospital St. Louis County for a colonoscopy and I asked the attending nurse how the COVID-19 was affecting the number of patients they were treating.

She told me that they were highly prepared for an influx of patients and thankfully they had only had six cases hospitalized in the past four months. To her...as well as to me...that was very encouraging.

It's not to discount the number of people suffering in the nursing homes nor in their own homes. Keeping count of those receiving hospitalization care would be important to know and evaluate the status of the virus.

It's a shame that this has become so political.

Along with "stacking" the numbers, there is also deaths attributed to Covid 19 when the person died for completely different reasons. It's also odd that doctors who speak out against certain aspects of Covid 19 are sanctioned.

Put aside, if you will, test numbers and perhaps the number of hospital admissions would be a better, albeit not perfect indicator.

The number has been politicized for the election .

Also, there’s money to be made in billing for covid as elective and other surgeries have been put off.

The hospitals would much rather be doing other surgeries for the real money.

Apparently (bold text in the quote of your post) this does not happen everywhere.

Arizona Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ refuted the claim of double-counting at a news conference June 25.
“We are aware the people will get multiple tests,” she said. “We work very carefully to de-duplicate. Each case is a unique individual.”
In other words, one person can account for only one positive test.
According to a DHS spokesman Chris Minnick, a person’s unique health information is kept in a protected database.
Five positive tests for that person would count as one positive and one test, he said. If that person tested positive at a CVS and a Walgreen’s, the database would still count just one positive test for that person.
We verified that there's no evidence state health officials are double-counting positive coronavirus tests.

Absolutely. This pandemic has been a financial disaster for hospitals.

More pertinent... why should I trust you and your claims?

Wait for the real downfall in states that severely lack medical coverage, including medicaid, for millions of citizens.
