I'll start the list with the 1927 Yankees (110 wins) and 1984 Tigers. The 1984 Tigers led wire to wire, and were hot to start, having a 35-5 record early in the season, eventually winning 104 and winning the WS 4 games to 1.

I will go next. Being from LA, I would have to mention the Dodgers.

After moving to Los Angeles, the team won National League pennants in 1959, 1963, 1965, 1966, 1974, 1977, 1978, 1981, 1988, 2017, and 2018, with World Series championships in 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981 and 1988. In all, the Dodgers have appeared in 20 World Series: 9 in Brooklyn and 11 in Los Angeles. What a team!!

During the 1994 strike someone ran a computer simulation of all the championship teams in a series of best of seven series ... and the 1975 Redlegs beat the 1927 Yankees.

For me:
The 1955 Dodgers --
They finally won the World Series & of even greater importance they beat the Damn Yankees

I think that '88 team stands out for a lot of us because of Gibson's MVP and Hershiser's pitching. Of course, there were the Koufax and Drysdale years as well.

The Big Red Machine was, indeed, one of the best teams of all time.

IMHO the 8& Dodgers and 90 REDLEGS are among the lesser World Series winners who got hot at the right moment.

An alternative hypothesis is that the 88 to 90 Athletics were chumps.

The 90 Reds were in first place wire to wire. The didn't get hot at the right moment, they were underrated.

Sorry, I watched them all year.

They started 9-0 and were 82-71 the rest of the way ... 91-71 will not put one in contention for a greatest team ever.

They went wire to wire as a miracle, and only because the rest of their division stunk. The year before they were 75-87 and the following year they were 74-88

I'm a HUGE Redlegs fan ... but they caught lightning in a bottle.

I guess they were the “Redlegs” at the time in question. During the Cold War, “Reds” was not a good nickname for an American team.

You could make a case for any of the Yankees teams of the late 30s. The 1939 team that won 106 games is a common choice, but that was the year when Lou Gehrig played only 8 games before retiring with ALS. I'd prefer the 102-win 1936 team, when Gehrig was MVP and Joe DiMaggio was a rookie. In addition to Gehrig and DiMaggio, two pitchers, Red Ruffing and Lefty Gomez, the catcher, Bill Dickey, and the second baseman, Tony Lazzari, are all in the Hall of Fame, and the third baseman, Red Rolfe, hit .319. The team batting average was .300.

Full disclosure: I'm a Red Sox fan so I say all this with some reluctance.

The team's baseball reference page: https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYY/1936.shtml

I was a Brooklyn Dodger fan, so I loved the 1955 World Series. The Dodgers broke my baseball heart.
As a Mets fan, I loved how the 1969 team came out of nowhere with Seaver and Koosman leading them to a championship.
However for best team, I’ll go with the 1998 Yankees team. They just tore the league up.
BTW, as a teacher, I would allow my students to wear team caps when the team was playing in the playoffs.

They have been referred to as 'REDS' by many/most for as long as I can remember, although they were initially called the RED STOCKINGS ... but they bore the word 'REDS' inside the wishbone C.

The word 'REDS' was removed for a time, but the official name was 'REDLEGS' although I'm not sure of the 'OFFICIAL" league name, they are locally referred to as the 'REDLEGS' by most fans over 40, and 'REDS' by the rest.

Oddly they have 4 mascots.

MR REDLEGS:

which is my favorite.

MR RED:

wearing the current hat.

ROSIE RED:

who usually wins the daily foot race.

and ...

GAPPER:

which the kids adore.

To me, however, they will always be the Cincinnati Redlegs.

Final answer.

My $0.02.

Your mileage may vary.
