Incredible architecture probably hides a lot of sadness and despair

An old unused psychiatric hospital - on my way to work one morning last week I took a slight detour specifically to shoot with my Pentax ES II loaded up with Kodak Tri X 400 - pulled to 200 -
Because I only had a 55 mm on the Pentax I couldn't back up enough to get a good shot of the front of the building - so I used the Canon M50 to shoot the front of the building - the second pic (I will return with my 28mm on the Pentax to re shoot the front probably this weekend!)

The place is very eerie - not a soul around except for a lone security guy keeping his eye on me from about half a mile away ...

Outside Annapolis is another one. Crownsville State Hospital, an "insane asylum" in those days (50's and 60's, then closed).
Horror stories abound.
I knew a woman who had been a nurse there.
No Florence Nightingale she. Up to her death in the 70's she never talked about her work.
Been wanting to do a few rolls of B/W film there.
Thank you for the push.

Nice--those old places often offer an overwhelming number of photo opportunities.

We drove past similar architecture on the “County Farm” / mental hospital when I was a kid. Vivid memories of seeing the people sitting behind the wire mesh. Many of them worked on the farm and maintained the facilities. I’m sure they were better off than those living on the streets today. As I remember, the rest of society was.

None of our history should be forgotten or rewritten. History happened, good and bad, and it cannot be changed. All that happens when history is "rewritten" is that we defraud future generations from learning what truly happened in the past - and that's shameful and wrong.

Powerful stuff. Reminds me of the old TB hospital on the southern end of Roosevelt Island, NYC and the abandoned hospital at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. In addition to the hospital the latter has a ton of other evocative images waiting of the abandoned waiting to be captured and shared.

Yes, if those walls and windows could speak...You did a nice job rendering what was probably a pathetic and lonely place at best.
