This snowy was slowly stalking and then lunging forward to strike and then back to the careful stalk.
A beautiful bird and a bit of a dandy with the wispy plumes but to the small creatures they eat they are "Death" itself.
Note the wispy plumes which get much more prominent in breeding season. Those almost caused it to go extinct. They were hunted to go on high fashion lady's hats. The US ended this in 1910 but Central and South America took a few years more. Their numbers recovered and they are now very common. and wide spread in the Americas from a bit north of 40° N to about 40° S. Their enemies are owls, hawks, eagles, and animals like raccoons which raid nests for eggs and the young.

I posted this in 2017 but for the "birds" photo contest by "The Journal of Wildlife Photography" I am going back to my RAW OOC and redoing the PP work on my entries. One a day until Sep 15.
Compelling image. What are you discovering in your redoing of the originals?
Very nice. I love the way the water is rendered.

Thanks, that some of the PP software is both better and "different". I also see things and get ideas for a "look" that is changed from what I did before.

Thanks, I have versions with the colors subdued to look sort of brown/green and scummy - which it was in places and later was worse before our season flushed the worst of it away.
I also have versions where I brought up the colors of the reflections even more. Very colorful to say the least.
I have a thing with reflections, splashes and ripples in my water shots.
Wonderful image, thanks for sharing and posting.
I haven’t seen the original or other variations, but this one is inspiring. It would be a good lesson for those who want to take thier work to the next level. And the first thing to notice is your original photo was properly exposed - no blown highlights - so all the info is there to treat as you wish.
Thanks for sharing.
