The caption on MSN says: “Incredible blanket instantly puts humans in a deep sleep in minutes.” This turns out to be an ad for Odyssey Blanket.

I always thought that "instantly" was much faster than "in minutes"!!! Granted, I have a "thing" about proper utilization of the English language!

I'm not an expert in English grammar but I do notice incorrect usage of it many times when watching TV like the usage of incorrect verbs and using an adjective instead of an adverb to describe a verb like had went instead of had gone and created equal instead of created equally.

Why can't the English teach their children how to speak? ;) <3

I too find badly written and badly spoken English frustrating, but we need to remember that all modern languages continually change and develop along with the times. My pet hate has always been the use of the word "assume" when the speaker / writer meant "presume", but this particular misuse has been happening for a hundred years, with the change of use now accepted in most dictionaries.

Webster has recognized the word “irregardless.” Civilization as we know it, has ended!
PS As a university Prof, I was adamant about correcting spelling and usage even though I taught statistics. The Satterthwaite adjustment was a tough one.

You folks commenting so far should be happy that you weren’t English teachers, as I was.

"I have a "thing" about proper utilization of the English language!"
I look at your sentence and to me, I would have added the word; the, before proper. English will not be a concern in the future.

I thought that was short-form for a rather nasty disease!

I know what you mean. Just bought a hose that said “guaranteed will not kink.” In first 15 minutes of use it kinked three times. Took it back to store yesterday. But the spelling was correct.

I taught a few undergrad classes when I was in grad school. I was stunned to see the work turned in by many students who were apparently unable to compose a sentence.
