Twice in the last few years i went up on The Walkway over The Hudson River Park to watch the 4th of July fireworks and the same weekend the hot air Balloons, because of the Covid shutdowns many of the events are shut down, I hope to enjoy the show next year. The bridge in the photos is the Poughkeepsie Bridge. The Walkway Over The Hudson River in New York State is called the world's longest elevated pedestrian bridge. it runs between Poughkeepsie and Highland.

I’m an hour and a half north of there.

Here in Troy, July 4th and even Flag Day (does Joe Citizen even know when is Flag Day ?) are big parade days cuz Troy is the birthplace of Uncle Sam (the person not the nation). Troy is so Uncle Samified we prolly have more parades than anyplace outside of Louisiana ... but this year nada.

Once upon a Flag Day we were rehearsing in a venue just a half block off the parade route. When the parade marched close by, our trumpet player just walked out and invited himself into a parade band. That was a “very Trojan” move :-)

Great pics. I use to trailer a boat & launch out of Stony Point & head up to Kingston. Do a little swimming & head back down to a bar/restaurant that was on a barge just below the Newburg/Beacon Bridge before heading back down to Stony Point a while back.
I had no idea they had a balloon festival up there.

Yes it is, they converted it to a great walk way a few years ago, still brings a lot of people for a walk with a great view of the river, a great view in the fall.

The balloon festival was started at the Dutchess County Airport years ago, because it drew so many people they moved it to a few locations, one mass launch was at the rowing club just north of the Poughkeepsie bridge and walkway park. The balloons have been moved once again to a location away from the river, this is a photo taken of a hot Air balloon over Mariner's Harbor Restaurant.

It was indeed a RR bridge, opened in 1888. For years used by the New York,New Haven & Hartford to bring freight into Southern New England from their interchange yard at Maybrook,NY. After Penn Central took over a fire of very mysterious origins ended its use. After years of assorted start-ups,it became the present walkway.
