Today's topic is anything that has to do with the postal service and Fall. 9/22/1789, the US Post Office, an office under the President, extended the regulating of post offices from state state, as established by congress in 1781. Regulation included postal routes, postal rates, stagecoaches, and the pony express. On 9/22 the The first postoffice opened somewhere (but I couldn't find out exactly where). It also when newspapers were accepted as mail, and regulation was passed forbidding postal workers to open letters. In 1800 The Postal Service moved from Philly to Washington, DC which had become the seat of government. It took 2 horse drawn wagons to move all the postal records, furnishings and supplies. TRIVIA Only 2 postmasters in history became president: Abraham Lincoln and Henry Truman.

So, when you think of mail and post offices, what comes to mind.
Love letters -these are in the sand, but I have many JIm sent when he was in the army. Email cannot replace them.
More love letters in the sand. Can you read what it says? Its written to you - all my Vitamin F friends.
Here's a close up of a love letter in the sand from me to you.
Friendship across the miles. Remember "SWAK?"
Some post offices are very unique.
http://youtu.be/425GpjTSlS4This is a post office on the mail boat "Sophie C." on Lake Winnepesaukee in NH. This particular stop was on Bear Island. The postal clerk processes the mail and the island kids run on board to buy an ice cream.
Scale and mail bags on the boat
Arriving at Bear Island, The post office is on the dock.
Drop off and pick up
Other post offices are just "ordinary" but in the country, the P.O. is often the place where people meet. chat, check up on news, and the postal clerk knows your name and knows your family too.
Country Mailboxes. Usually get beaten up by snow plows every winter.
They sure do make an interesting Kscope
http://youtu.be/-tDQMqlHZt8Enjoy the first day of Autumn. Maybe the seasons don't change where you are, but there must be something special that blooms, or a food that signals "Fall"
Looking forward to a lot of interesting postings today. I could think of hundreds more but I won't. Anyone have a stamp collection?
These are all great Pat - as is the music you chose! So do we choose one or the other or participate in all three?

Whatever floats your boat. Post whatever you want related to mail, post offices or Fall. Glad you liked them Janice and the music too. Now, go to bed, my friend. Post all or pick a couple. Should be something for everyone.

Thanks, GG. I took the pictures yesterday and was so bummed when the computer went down as I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get at them! Night all.

Pat, those are wonderful images. I love post offices, especially the older ones you see in so many little quaint towns across the country! I didn't know that Lincoln and Truman were Postmasters!
My submissions for today happened quite by accident today. We are in the N. GA Mountains celebrating my husband's 69th birthday, which was Tuesday, 9/18. It has been an absolutely breathtaking fall day with a little crispness in the air. He was clowning around and laid down on a park bench at the Blue Ridge Scenic railway station and said that I needed to take a photo of him being 60. Well, I did, and then heard a commotion behind me and turned around just in time to catch a young man in some skate board action! Talk about contrast!
Darrell being 60
A kid being a kid!
The kid was pretty awesome! A little touch of HDR to emphasize his skateboard move
Blue Ridge Lake - Blue Ridge Mountains
The Blue Ridge GA Scenic Railroad - this shows a little subtle fall color
I'll have a pic or two by tomorrow.
Another day of interest.... #3 is a bit of a stretch as "First day of fall" (autumn) as it was taken in June but felt like fall....! (The post office used to run the 'phones) there were about 80 phone boxes all over London which were decorated by artists during the summertime
