The new fresnel lens 500mm is really light. maybe 3 1/2lbs
Well, yeah. But then you have to carry a shorter lens or two for the smaller, closer stuff. I like my 200~500mm. Great photo!

Thank you for your reply CPO. BTW, what is a CPO? I Googled and it gave a few choices. I was in the medical profession and not familiar with some business acronyms. Thanks!
I totally agree with you but use it when I will settle for head shots instead of full body if subject it too close or, yesterday at the beach was able to zoom with MY body - lots of room. I am a pretty thin guy, never had much muscle mass (despite lifting weights regularly for years) and almost 78. The 500 prime is a couple pounds lighter than the 200-500 (makes a big difference to me)and better balanced for me with the D500 and D850.... allows me to hand hold most of the time... be out for a couple of hours or more and not get worn out. The 200-500 is a great lens and priced very well for the sharpness. The 500 prime uses phase frisnel optic technology and is about the same size and weight as the 2.8 70-200. Sorry for the long answer.... and you may already know all about this. And the sharpness of the 500 mm is incredible! Your thoughts are totally legit.
