First time at Fort Rock in the High Desert of Oregon. Hiked through, it was very interesting. I then visited the Ghost Town which unfortunately was not open. The rocks on the sides stand as much as 365 feet tall, and you can hike to the top, which I did not do.

Its between Lapine and Lakeview, hiway 31 for about 25 miles, a sign guides you to Fort Rock about 7 miles from the turnoff.

Fort Rock is a state park within the town of Fort Rock, Oregon. South East of LaPine Oregon off of Oregon 31 on Fort Rock Rd. The "old town" of Ft Rock is a museum and only open sometimes. But you can get some fairly good shots from the parking lot. There were a few eagles flying around Fort Rock so you may get lucky with some eagle shots. If they are still doing the talks this summer. Sign up in advance for the talk on the prehistoric sandels found in the Fort Rock Cave. They date back to the day the Crater Lake volcano blew up.

Thanks! Time to get out my OR map book. I like taking the RV to OR but it may be a little while due to restrictions.

Not too far from the Silver Lake, Christmas Valley part of the state. High Desert country, Quite a drive South and East of Bend. Then try to find "Hole in the Ground" and other scenics.
