Got a new toy. Part of an estate sale. The daughter didn't think it was ever mounted to a camera. I believe her. Not even a finger print on it. Until I messed with it. No dust...nothing. Everything there. Case, straps and paperwork.
Paid 1,000.00 for it. Got it home and discovered there was a Promaster HGX Prime 105mm CPL filter included. Look it up. 319.99. Surprised me. Not sure if I'll use it but...could sell it and recoup a few bucks.
This thing is a beast. Heavy, but faster than any lens I own. Wow. It will focus on whatever is in front of it. You had better have it pointed where you want it. Move just a little.....Gonna take some getting used to. Not sure it's focusing correctly, or if it's me. A friend showed me how to turn on focus point AFTER the shot. It might be me. Have a dock on the way. Plan to update and calibrate it anyway. Probably just prove it was me. Lol.
Not the best time to be spending this kind of dough but, I just couldn't pass this up.

Enjoy it and create some awesome images with it. I had that lens and the dock. I was not pleased with the sharpness at the extended range. I sold it for the Nikon 200-500
i have the contemporary version of that lens. i shoot it on a canon 70d and I think it is soft at 600, but i shoot it on my canon 6d and it does an awesome job. must be the way the different cameras deal with the light
I have one of those too. I love it for both aviation photography and I bought a solar filter for it and was able to grab Mercury transiting across the face of the sun last November.
I have this lens and use it mainly for shooting birds around my feeder and back yard. Manual focus is best at 600mm for sharpness. Mainly used on Canon 6d II.
I bought the contemporary version of that lens and I agree it is a real hunk of lens to deal with. Enjoy it, especially at such a great price!

Enjoy the lens. I have the contemporary version. I use it with a 70D, 5Div, and 5DS. At 600 it’s best results are manual focus on a gimbal mount with heavy tripod.
If you use UV filters, the Promaster is a good filter. Promaster brand are made by quality manufacturers for camera stores.

I plan on picking up a contemporary of this beast in a few days.
I have done my research and it will fit nicely on plans for it. I plan on purchasing a FOTGA L200 bracket to assist me when I have this lens rigged up on a tripod.
Happy Shooting!

I am a Canon/Sony person. A friend had the Sport for sale so I tried it out for a week. I was very disappointed and gave it back to him. I mostly shot at 600mm and yes, I did a focus cal at 600. Compared to Canon lenses, focus was slow and images soft @600. Oh, and yes I was on tripod sometimes or monopod always with a stabilizing bracket with a Canon 80D.

I have the Sigma 100-400 C and 150-600 C that I use on Canon 6d2 and 7d2s with good results from both. I agree with a previous commenter who mentioned a little softness at 600. The optics of the S and C versions, I understand, are pretty much the same. The S version is, indeed, a heavy beast! Before doing a AF calibration with the dock, I suggest checking that the firmware is current. Also, a check with Sigma support prior to attempting the calibration is suggested. Enjoy!

Most of the problems that people have with soft focus on the Sigma 150-600 sports lens are because they are handholding at too low a shutter speed. Make sure the lens is either mounted on a good tripod or that you have the ISO set high enough to have a high shutter speed and there should be no problem with the lens.
It is the best lens available for the price. The Nikon 200-500, which is mentioned by another poster is higher priced and doesn't have the reach, although it does focus slightly faster.
Enjoy the lens. It was my go to lens for soccer, baseball and softball. One other thing, for those of you calling the sigma 150-600 contemporary a beast, it is significantly lighter than the sports version. And if any of you really think the Sigma sport is heavy try holding a 600f4. The sport is a great compromise lens. Not as good as a prime 600f4, but not as heavy, and still pretty good.

I have the contemporary version as well, shoot with it on a canon 90d. I've found it pretty darn sharp throughout its range, but you're right: it does soften up just a little bit as it approaches 600mm. Also have Sigma's TC-1401 1.4x Teleconverter, highly recommend it as well. Both the lens and the teleconverter are
super good values for the money.
