I put a Nikon D600 camera with grip and a SB600 flash all up for sale in excellent condition. I was contacted and ask if they could pay through PayPal and I said yes because I figured it would be the safest way to sell it. I got very convincing email with instructions of what to do and all the info they needed. All very official looking. I have used PayPal for years to buy something but never to sell anything. The shot story is that all the Emails were fake and now I am out the equipment and the price for shipping. I had received and email that said I would get my money in 2 to 3 days. I waited and then got another email with a whole different story. By that time I found out the camera had already been delivered. I am out the equipment and the shipping. $700 learning experience. Be sure and check everything out carefully BEFORE making and sales.

Yes, this can happen. I guess that by now you've figured out that if someone wants to pay using PayPal, you let them pay and then you go to your PayPal account to see if the money is there. Then I would transfer the money from PayPal to my bank account and then ship the item after I have the money firmly credited into my bank.

It's also best to be sure that the PayPal user has a verified PayPal account. You can also call PayPal or write them. I had to do with with a person that used a PayPal account that he had setup while he lived in NY. But I could see that the shipping address was an address in Florida. I called PayPal and they told me not to do the deal because they couldn't verify that address. I informed the buyer of the problem and he did a change of address with PayPal and after his address was confirmed by PayPal I called them again and they told me it was fine now. Done deal. You can't be too careful these days.

This was my first and only sale on line. I am definitely smarter today than I was yesterday. It was an expensive learning experience. I can assure you I will not make that mistake again.

Since you sent it to an address you can at least report it to the local police.

Unless they are defunded.

Yes, expensive lesson ... but what goes around comes around and the ripoff artist will get theirs - either in this life or the next one...

Then you need to call your "community-based policing association." They are sure to be a great help...

We all learn to go through life. Something similar happened to me where I did not wait to receive confirmation of PayPal transfer hitting my account before I sent the goods. For this reason and others, I no longer sell via E-Bay. I will purchase from them, but never sell.

I do all of that through KEH.com. Fast response, sometimes actual payouts are higher than their quote, and payment is fast.

The sherif that filed out the report pulled up the address on Goole maps and said it was a laundry mat in Miami, Fl

I had an encyclopedia salesman drop ship my business about $3,000 worth of goods and then charge me for it.I called the parent company and told them I wasn't paying but I was charging them daily storage fees. And if they were not picked up in 15 days, I was donating them to the Boy Scouts. Got a shopping order the next day. Scammers don't care who they hurt.

Terrible, I have used PayPal many, times buying not selling. If I do sell anything and PayPal is used by the purchaser of my item, investigation will be done 1st.

Grrr. But since that is where it went the owner of laundromat is accountable for it!

No clue what message you mean. You need to use “quote reply”.
