I just received a request from a realtor that I know requesting some updated head shots(?) and a "good group shot to help our marketing efforts" The head shot I understand but I am a little befuddled about the group shot. They also ask about my prices and my availability. Because of the pandemic I am not doing any studio work. I can shoot interiors if needed. Can anyone advise me on this. I have some experience in pricing from 4 stock accounts and photo journalism.Stock accounts are now all discontinued. Can anyone give me a "starting fee" and I can negotiate from there. Thanks in advance

Question, Group shot against background Paper or Outdoors? How many in the Group. I would charge $300 for Outdoors and $400 indoors with paper backdrop.

I always charged by the hour on jobs that involved no printing. It was a while ago now that I am retired, but my fee was generally $100.00 per hour. Today I would probably charge more, but that was at the beginning of digital so it was a while ago. I could easily see $200.00 per hour now.
Remember, if they use for prints in publication, you want a photo credit.

There's so many factors to consider here in trying to give some meaning to the answers you are requesting. I have found in dealing with real estate and real estate sales people it is they who are paying for photography services out of their own pockets, and and not out of a "corporate budget." Typically, they are far less willing to spend the money when they, the individuals, are paying for it. Also, what's the "going rate" in your market?...and how much do they value your product? Unfortunately today, the acceptance of cell phone shooting and shots have greatly reduced the value of of professional services. Most customers don't understand the time involved in doing edits, plus what your travel time is worth. We charge $150 for individual head shots, and shooting a small group (3 in your case) is really not much more difficult than shooting one person, but I don't think we could charge 3x times our single person price for the group shot...basically it's the same amount of time, and editing whether it's one person, or three people. Of course, when the group starts to get much larger things do change with more posing issues and lighting considerations, and probably more shots needed to catch for blinks, bad expressions, etc. So, being that we charge $150 for individual head shots, and if we were asked to price a small group shot, I'd probably quote $200-$250 for the group shot, but as always, it's what the market will bear.
