I will soon buy a new mirrorless camera and don't want to make a mistake.
I am looking at the Sony a7 lll, Sony a7R lll, Sony a7R lV & the Nikon Z7.
I shoot mostly sports (indoor & outdoor), nature, landcapes, birds in flight & portraits.
I have no current lenses (using borrowed camera now - Canon EOS Rebel T2i) so my 1st new lens of choice, to also purchase, will be the zoom 70-200 f/2.8 of the same mfg. as the new camera.
Any advise that you can give is appreciated. Thank you.

Canon will shortly announce their new milc, R5. Canon Rumors and Canon Watch have both published significant bits of tech detail and have been very favorably disposed towards the camera. If you can wait, you may find it very much to your liking. Price is rumored to come in under $4K, like maybe $3999.

Sony A9II, one of the best out there for action (sensor, auto focusing and burst rate) but its not cheap and then pair that with the Sony 70-200/f2.8, an outstanding combination. A9II is much better than the A7III (which I own) especially for action shots. Unfortunately Sony glass is expensive but it is good. Good luck with whatever you choose.

None of these choices is a best choice for "mostly sports".
You might wait 6 months after the EOS 5R release to confirm the reviewers assessments. Otherwise, try the Sony A9 II.
The Sony A7RIII is an excellent system that can be purchased used from B&H or Adorama for around $2200.00. At 42mp it’s hard to beat for the price. There are a lot of “E” mount lenses available. Not all of them will be Sony.
If you don't make a living as a photographer then the a7iii will serve you well. If you make a living as a photographer then the a7Riv and if money is no object then the top of the line a9ii. I personally own the a7iii, a7Riii, and a99ii. I hope to upgrade to the a7Riv in the next year. The a9ii is the worlds fastest focus camera currently made. I highly recomend all the Sony lenses. Including the Sony 200-600mm G lens.

Do you already own Canon lenses? If so then look at the Canon R systems. I love my R and all my EF-L lenses with it.
Thank you for your informative reply.

The Sony a7R IV has TRACKING EXPAND FLEXIBLE SPOT focusing. It is the greatest thing for sports. The a7rIII does not have this.
The Sonya9 (now at great prices) has it with a firmware update. The Sony a9 focuses slightly faster than the Sony a7rIV and III.
My suggestion would be either the a9 or the a7rIV, since you will be shooting a lot of sports and birds in flight. And both have eye focus.
But do not be fooled, Sony eye focus is not a done deal. It is so accurate sometimes it focuses on the eye brow instead of the eye.
But both are great camera's and both will do great.
The sony a7rIV can be put on cropped sensor mode to give you even more reach at 26 megs. OUTSTANDING.
And the a7rIV is currently 300 off and another 50 off the vertical grip.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING THE VERTICAL GRIP FOR EITHER.

I do have the a7III and can highly recommend it. Especially for low light if you shoot indoors. I have a tamron 28-85 2.8 and also highly recommend that as a first lens. It is even better in my eyes as the Sony of the same approximate size. Indoors, a 70-200 would be a bit much. I then have the sony 70-300 and it serves well for a tele lens. That is it. From several cameras and many lenses to this cut my inventory dramatically and I get all the shots I want from them. Good hunting.

You should definitely be adding the a9 to your evaluation list. The a9II is not worth the price compared to the a9 unless you plan on transferring files on the fly, required now by professional sports photographers. The a7riv is also a great camera as well, but at 61MP file sizes are huge and will you ever need that many pixels. Also, some say with that number of pixels focus is critical so your keeper rate might be lower compared to using the a9. Also, for sports or action you are going to be taking a lot of frames so buffer issues most likely will become an issue with the a7rIV especially if you are shooting uncompressed files. And, simply stated, the a9 focuses better than either the a7Riii or a7riv.
I do not do sports photography so I can't comment on the whether the 70-200 2.8 is long enough, but if you venture into wildlife (birds) you will need something longer. Sony has some great options now for the long E mount lenses. I have several and all are really top notch.
Good luck!
