I searched the Hog for recent posts about Eneloop batteries and didn’t find any. Since this technology seems to change often I wanted to ask about your recent experience with these batteries.

I tried NiMH batteries back in the late 90’s/early 2000s and they were awful. They would self discharge so fast that you could not charge up your stock and expect them to have a useful charge a few weeks later. I had the PowerX batteries and a Maya MHC9000 charger.

My questions are as follows:

1. Are all NiMH batteries today created equal so long as the mah ratings are the same?
2. If no to question 1, which brands work the best.
2. Will my old maha MHC9000 work on the newer batteries or do I need to replace it? I see they still make the model, but I don’t know if it was upgraded since the newer technology came out.

I’m currently using Eveready
LIon batteries and would like to find something more wallet friendly. Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Put this in Google:

Eneloop site:uglyhedgehog.com

People use crap for titles, which is what the UHH search looks through.

The above text will search through the body of posts, only at UHH.

Ordered a supply of Eneloop batteries about seven or eight years ago. Different sizes so I would have some for everything we owned. Have never had to buy a battery since. Never had one go bad or loose its charge in storage. I do open the container and top off the spares about once a year. Am totally satisfied.

Thanks for the reminder I had forgotten the search limitations.

Noticed not long ago, Costco had an assortment pack. Seemed like a good deal.

I looked at Costco because I remembered that as well. But they no longer have them for online ordering. I guess I’ll have to make a trip to the brick and mortar to be sure.

Joys of "Adventure" Shopping. They do a really good job, though. If you aren't into the Mask thing, you may want to wait a bit.

I've read IKEA sells them for less under the LADDA brand name.
I haven't used those myself, but....

I used to maintain 12 camera kits for students to check out at the university where I worked.
Each had 2- four battery sets of Eneloops not to mention the batteries us two photographers used for assignments. That was easily in the neighborhood of 120 AA's to keep charged.

The negligible power loss from them sitting unused was never ever an issue.
I love 'em!

We don’t have IKEA here and I understand that the Ladda batteries cannot be ordered online.

But they will give you a mask if you show up without one. I get my prescriptions at Costco and had to pick up a refill last week.

I’ve checked with Powerex tech support and they tell my my old C9000 charger will work fine on the new LSD batteries. So, I think I’m going to order some Powerex batteries and give it a go.

Thanks all for sharing your experiences. In my search for the truth on the new LSD batteries I have not seen one person say that the wouldn’t buy them again.

I use Eneloops for everything and have for years - never had a disappointment or a failure, and they are excellent! Look for a package deal that includes the charger and an assortment of the sizes you use.

Are you sure they were nimh and not nicad's...
Nicads usually self discharge within a month.

I have dozens of eneloops, some over 10yrs old that still work fine and still hold 80% of their charge after being stored for a year! My Costco doesn't carry them anymore.
