Anyone here familiar and have used a Pro Media Gear BH-1 ballhead? I'm looking to get a really good ballhead and am considering this or the RRS BH-55. I was watching some youtube videos and a lot of the presenters preferred it to the RRS model.

I didn't know RRS could ever be the cheaper option, but from the two sites I looked at, the RRS option was $50 cheaper. Really Right Stuff is the industry standard, certainly for ball-head options. I have both the screw clamp and lever release models. Get the screw version of you're mixing brands of arca-swiss plates into the clamp.

I'm using this ballhead for many years and I'm really pleased by it. It is very quick in its usage, solid and stays put when you lock it! 50lbs load capacity is plenty, I'm a happy camper! The RRS 55 head is also a very great head, but at a thousand bucks, just a ted spendy for me!

I respect everyone's opinion but I would like to hear from someone who's used and is familiar with both products.

RRS equipment is top quality. Their staff is very knowledgeable. The only thing to remember is, "RR$."

I just check Pro Media gear Web site: I don't know what your going to put on the head<but It don't look like it would stay where you want it even with a 70-200 lens.
I would say RRS or Acra Tech Nomad which I use with a D800 and 24-120 f4 Nikkor

RRS hands down. I own numerous heads, tripods, and accessories. Not one has ever failed. Quality beyond belief.

Are you familiar with Pro Media Gear equipment? I get it that RRS is great but I'm looking for feedback from someone who's used both.

There must be many photographers who can spend around $5,000 just so they can say they have not one but TWO versions of the same excellent equpiment.

I do not have the ProMedia Gear ballhead so cannot comment on that. However, I have a number of other products from ProMedia Gear -- e.g. high end Gimbal, heavy duty tripod, and monopod with tilt head. They are solid products, well built and work extremely well. I cannot compare with RRS but, if you have the budget (and I do), ProMedia Gear is one of my favorites for quality gear.

There are other ball heads to consider. I bought a Markins M20 a while back and am very happy with it. They are high quality and I noticed Nikonian recommends them.
