usually, the built in flash is just too ... inadequate.
You can't really aim it, and after 10 feet or so it's just an annoyance.
But it's better than nothing, especially for all those indoor shots. Families, etc.
However, an external flash can be aimed; made more powerful.
AND your camera batteries last longer. Sometimes, quite a bit.
I second the Godox. And FWIIW, I suggest that you buy a flash that is smarter than you. TTL, connect-ability, remote, etc. are very handy things to have.
