Continuing with the Machu Picchu series, I will share other photos of the place. Archeologist Hiram Bingham rediscovered Machu Picchu in 1911. Because it is located in an Amazon forest, the citadel was covered by it. To clean the entire place Hiram hired people from the area. The work was very hard and as always, time and money were limited. So, he decided to burn the place to speed up the work. That fire burned the wooden beams of the houses and the roofs, that is why we only see the stones of the buildings. An interesting thing is to note that the walls are double with mortar in the middle for climate protection. Another curiosity is that the walls of the houses are inclined as well as the doors are trapezoidal to support earthquakes (incredible technology).
Shots one and two are at the beginning of the tour, the others are different shots inside the citadel

Another great series of photos, what wonderful subject matter to photograph. These are the early engineers
who built incredible buildings that still stand, using materials that God put on the earth.
Your photography is a tribute to them.
Thanks so much for sharing this journey with us. Visiting Machu Pichu has been one of my dreams. The stonework is amazing!!

Another excellent set Jorge with interesting information. You brought back happy memories for me.
Thanks for that, very nice sequence of shots, now I don't have to go there myself! Just kidding about that, your photos make me way to visit there myself sometime.
“The houses are inclined as well as the doors are trapezoidal to support earthquakes”. If these steps worked during earthquakes, how come we don’t use these techniques today?
Just had to add my applause - great tour.
