There has been a lot of back and forth on this forum regarding quality of work, with some becoming upset at the use of the term "snapshots" as reference to their posts. There are a number of good photographers here who present interesting examples of their work. Some are better than others. But there was one guy, several years ago, whose work was always exemplary. Though he still has a profile here, he hasn't posted since 2016. His name is Bobby Deal. When looking at excellence - or something close to it - perhaps one can take a look at some of his offerings as a comparison. Just go to his profile and view his last few created posts. Perhaps his work, along with others, can serve as a "standard" of sorts when critiquing quality.

You are quite right. His work is the real deal. Something to aspire to. Thanks.

I enjoy good photographs.
But all mine are snapshots. A moment in time.
I have many wonderful snapshots including a couple I did not take but are of me jumping out of a helicopter.
We can't all be a Bobby Deal. But we all can be the best deal we were dealt.

Absolutely. And there are some here who do a really good job. Deal was dealt a royal flush. I was dealt a pair of two's. LOL But I still enjoy playing my hand.

I agree he does do good work. He used models that appear to be a little more refined than many of the others I've seen posted here. They were made up to the Tee's and their hair was really refined. He may have also done a lot of touchup to his photos as well where a lot of other UHHers here don't.....

Yes, I think you are right on all counts. But there's one other thing. Bobby is/was a true professional. He took his work seriously and developed his skills accordingly. I can find nothing about him after 2016. His disappearance here was sudden so I can only hope he is still in good health and doing well.

I see some posts, but I don't get the feel that they are from him. But if they are then more power to him!! When I look at his home page, etc. there is nothing new since 2016. There are a few members here who knew him fairly well.
Wow, those images are in a class by themselves. Thanks for sharing !!

About 5 years ago I had the delightful opportunity to spend 4 days with Bobby Deal along with 3 other Uglies at his Las Vegas studio and bountifully received of his generosity, knowledge and kindness which he gave to us all liberally and generously. He is a talented and dedicated professional with an unusual ability to teach the art of photography. My understanding is that Bobby moved to the general Denver area and has been dealing with some fairly serious health issues, I’m unsure specifically of what the issues are or were. Bobby taught with every one of his posts, he loved teaching and it showed and I miss seeing his work and benefitting from his knowledge and experience. Personally, although his photographic skill level could easily be compared to the best in the business, he was a humble, genuine and sincere individual, and like us all, he had his fair share of demons, I suspect, along with an interesting and checkered past.

Thanks, Jon.
I remember the time when you and a few others went to Bobby's studio and posted some of your work after your return. I appreciate your update on Bobby. Though I never knew him personally, I did correspond with him from time to time and when the subject of "snap shot" or "not a snap shot" kept coming up on this board, I immediately thought of him and his outstanding posts. He was around when the Nude Photography and Boudoir Forum first took root, and as you might remember, his work was also criticized - not for being snapshots, but for being pornographic. My, how times have changed.
I saw and loved them the first time around and I like them even more now. They’re so good!
