This is for those who have an interest in America's Civil War. I first became interested in the Civil War when I first viewed Ken Burns Civil War Documentary. Some decades ago. Ken Burns had a segment on General Grant in that Documentary. President Abraham Lincoln finally found a General that could finish the War. General Robert E. Lee was the first wanted, to lead the Union Army. But, Robert E. Lee chose loyalty to Virginia instead. General Grant had General William Tecumseh Sherman, and General Lee had General Stonewall Jackson. Four great Generals. However, General Stonewall Jackson was severely wounded, when one of his own soldiers shot him accidentally. He later died. Too early, many historians have said. General Lee needed him at Gettysburg. General Grant went on to become President for two terms. The producer of Monday's Miniseries is actor Leonardo DiCaprio. The Miniseries is 3 straight nights. Check it out. Any additional comments about General Grant are welcomed. Have a great Memorial Day Holiday everyone.

Yep, been seeing notices about the Grant series for a while now, and am rather anticipating watching it. Sort of became interested in Civil War stuff --not in a major way, but still quite interested nonetheless-- as a result of a lengthy series Life Magazine did on it, commemorating its Centennial, in the '60's. Ken Burn's 80's Civil War series, too, was exceptional pretty obviously. Have watched probably all of the better --and not so better-- feature films about the time --'Glory' comes to first to mind, but likewise 'Gettysburg,' last year's stunning bio-pic about Jane Pitman, and any number of others-- repeatedly, and they never get old. Visited a number of the NPS's Battlefield Parks in my various wanderings, but strangely, while standing, for example, on top of Little Round Top and seeing/viewing/shooting the bucolic scene laid out before me, I couldn't find it within me to genuinely 'feel' the place. Hope this 'Grant' series lives up to expectations.

I hope it kept to the real Grant, not some Holllwood made up story about Grant. History Ch. has become noted for bad history. What with all this UFO bs? If you want a "feel" for place go to Little Big Horn Battlefield. Drive around the area and walk in the area that Custer was, the place that Benteen was at. The area that Indians were at. It all come together and you will understand what happen on that day in June 1876.

Lee could have win at Gettysburg with out Jackson. Lee problems was he was over confidence after wining at Charlottesville. He did not listen to his generals and should have kept Stuart at his side, not let Stuart run off like he did. Stuart prove himself as a good field comaner at Charlottesville. Stuart replace Jackson at Charlottesville.

Yes, I've been to Little Big Horn. And there, as well as certain other eminent battlefield and/or war related places, I've felt the 'feel' of its significance. But I thought the post was Civil War --and tomorrow evening's 'Grant' release in particular-- related, not an 'every battle everywhere' related topic. My bad, I guess.

I will grant (no pun intended) that the History Channel has produced some pure and egregious dogs of shows, though. That 'Ancient Aliens' thing curls my toenails --and not in any sort of good way-- with its batshit crazy stupidity. 'Vikings,' on the other hand, was 24 karat gold good. How will 'Grant' fare in the scheme of things? Remains to be seen......

Yes, I hope it will be as good as advertised. I searched and found out that Ken Burns Civil War was actually released in the Fall of 1990, on the PBS network. It is nearly 30 years old, and still a Classic, like the movie, Gone With The Wind. General Grant, had the utmost respect for General Lee. Even though he was the enemy.

Ken Burns's "Civil War" is way over "Gone with the Wind". What I would like to see is someone make a tv series base on the book "Gone With the Wind" and follow what in the book. An example: Scare has one child in the movie, in the book she has four. Ashly in the movie get over the war. In the book he does not. As for the movie itself I think that better movies came out that same year(1939) as "Gone With the Wind".

Yes, I agree that the Ken Burns documentary was way above the movie, Gone With The Wind. But, the movie, released in 1939, is still considered a Classic Movie. Once in awhile, TCM will televise the movie. And, give every detail, as to how it was produced. Starting with Clark Gable. The Wizard of Oz, another Classic, came out in 1939.
